Your Role: As a key member of the Energy Storage Team, you will serve as the regional focal point for Battery Management System (BMS) controls, collaborating with adjacent subsystems, systems, and manufacturing teams on assigned projects. This role includes providing factory support for BMS Electrical Components, leading locomotive validation activities, and engaging in both internal and external BMS Electrical development initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Software, or Controls Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in embedded controls design or validation.
  • Fluency in both English and Portuguese is required.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with Battery Management System (BMS) architecture and functionality, particularly regarding Lithium-ion Batteries.
  • Practical knowledge of analog and digital electronic circuits.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and tools such as ClearQuest for defect logging.
  • Knowledge of CENELEC, IEC/EN 50657, and 50126 Railway Applications Software Integrity Standards (Automotive or Industrial equivalents are also acceptable).
  • Experience in developing control requirements and implementing Matlab Simulink models.
  • Proficiency in developing and executing Matlab Simulink Test harnesses.
  • Experience in controls/software validation using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HitL) simulators.
  • Experience in locomotive-level validation testing or similar industrial applications.
  • Prior exposure to manufacturing and laboratory environments.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Engage in design reviews and document validation plans.
  • Identify and coordinate the procurement of test equipment and apparatus necessary for validation.
  • Provide factory support throughout the locomotive build lifecycle concerning Energy Storage/BMS integration.
  • Lead validation efforts for Loco Energy Storage/BMS subsystems, including engineering validation and type testing.
  • Define and integrate commercial test routines for Loco Energy Storage/BMS subsystems into the overall commercial test plan, supporting initial execution with manufacturing teams.
  • Monitor, manage, and report on the status of development and validation efforts to various organizational levels.
  • Identify and escalate emerging issues while proposing potential mitigations and next steps.
