Job Overview

The role of a Lead Engine Controls Engineer involves spearheading the development of locomotive engine controls that meet customer requirements, cost, and reliability expectations. This includes defining system-level requirements, creating test plans, performing system validation, leading and participating in design reviews, and making technical decisions.

This position requires a leader who can drive a culture of quality and technological refinement within existing designs. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing engine control systems for locomotives, leading and participating in product conceptual designs and concept trade-off analysis, and developing model-based designs for engine controls.

Key responsibilities include interacting with locomotive systems, sub-systems, and component teams to define and document vehicle control system requirements and interfaces, developing models as per design requirements, conducting desktop simulations to verify designs, and developing validation plans and performing control/subsystem/system validation.

The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and developing modern internal combustion engine controls, powertrain for locomotive/automotive systems, modeling, simulation, and calibration tools used in engine control system development, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation/aerospace engineering.
  • Experience on-the-job experience in designing and developing modern internal combustion engine controls, powertrain for locomotive/automotive systems.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, and calibration tools used in engine control system development.
  • Ability to lead technical development dealing with multiple stakeholders and bring quality solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects.
  • Established project management skills.
