Assistant Breeder

KWS SAAT SE is seeking a skilled Vegetable Breeding Specialist to join our team in Uberlândia-MG, Brazil.

Job Purpose

As a Vegetable Breeding Specialist, you will play a key role in the development of new varieties of indeterminate tomatoes. You will work closely with our Breeder to design and implement breeding programs, optimize breeding efficiency, and ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and Development: Assist the Breeder in designing and implementing new breeding technologies and methods to improve breeding efficiency and output.
• Information Management: Design, evaluate, and formulate the short-term breeding plan, work process, and performance metrics with the Breeder.
• Breeding Trials: Design, plan, and execute breeding trials, analyze results, and document findings to optimize breeding program efficiency.
• Seed Management: Manage and execute the increase and maintenance of basic stock seed in coordination with the Breeder, Stock Seed, and Production departments.
• Administration: Manage breeding administration, fill budget plan forms, and ensure compliance with procedures and guidelines.
• Communication: Coordinate and communicate breeding program activities to technical assistants and crop technicians.
• Market Knowledge: Develop and maintain market knowledge to translate market demands into breeding goals.

Requirements

• Education: BSc/MSc in horticulture, plant breeding, genetics, or a closely related field.
• Language: English.
• Experience: Few years of experience in plant breeding.
• Skills: Team player, organization and planning skills, computer skills, and strong communication skills.
