Job Title:
Linux Kernel Developer Position
Job Summary:
Develop and maintain the Ubuntu Linux kernel by collaborating with a globally distributed team. Strong C programming skills are essential, with Python or other like languages also highly regarded.
About the Role:
- Collaborate regularly and proactively with a distributed team to deliver high-quality results
- Work closely with external partners on cutting-edge projects
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues in the kernel reported by customers and discovered through rigorous testing
- Take ownership of delivering a flavour of the Ubuntu Linux kernel
- Improve tooling and automation for delivery and testing of Ubuntu Linux kernels
- Submit, review, and apply kernel patches, working with upstream maintainers
Requirements:
- Significant experience in C programming
- Understanding of operating system kernel internals and concepts, with Linux preferred but not essential
- Proficiency in git
- Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu)
- Professional English language skills with excellent presentation abilities
- Ability to travel occasionally for company events
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Strong grasp of device drivers, board support packages, and low-level system engineering
- Prior experience with software packaging formats, especially with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience
- Understanding of Linux kernel processes and release cycles
- Performance engineering and security knowledge
- Background in CI/CD and process automation
- Prior involvement in an open-source project
