Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal Department in the Latin America region. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal support to our account executives and internal clients, focusing on payment systems in Brazil.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including client, consulting, sponsorship, and vendor agreements.
  • Provide counsel on relevant industry legislation and regulation, ensuring compliance with global standards.
  • Draft, update, and develop template contracts to enhance contracting efficiency.
  • Review, analyze, draft, and negotiate agreements related to technology acquisition, licensing, and implementation, as well as procurement of goods and services.
  • Provide general legal support and advice to business lines and management in Latin America, addressing regulatory issues, product development, and client relationships.
  • Collaborate with other legal department members and outside counsel to manage local litigation matters and address legal issues in various areas, including antitrust, privacy, and intellectual property.
  • Offer practical, timely, strategic, and high-quality legal advice on privacy and data security-related matters, working closely with stakeholders to advise on applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Advise on best practices and compliance with global privacy and data protection laws, overseeing legal and regulatory aspects of data collection, use, privacy disclosures, and transparency.
  • Effectively retain, supervise, and direct outside counsel, managing legal expenses consistent with global legal budget.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships across functional areas, facilitating a partnering-based approach.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 10+ years with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or 5+ years with a PhD.
  • 15+ years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 12+ years with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience.
  • J.D. with strong academic credentials and admission to practice law in Brazil, with membership in good standing of the Brazilian Bar Association.
  • Experience at a top national law firm and/or a global corporation, preferably in the payment services industry and related processing industries, banking, and financial institutions, laws, and regulations.
  • Outstanding English and Portuguese speaking and writing skills, with Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to assess issues from both legal and business perspectives, identifying legal risks and prioritizing response.
  • Sense of urgency and responsiveness.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workloads, and communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior management.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial transactions, with superior analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical and personal values.
  • Strong people skills, with proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels of management and work on cross-functional teams on complex deals and processes.
