Job Role Overview

The Executive Director of Development, Centers and Institutes plays a vital role in driving fundraising initiatives to support academic programs and the university's mission.


Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of integrated programmatic, facility, and operational plans for academic priorities across centers and institutes, libraries, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Manage a team of Directors of Development, Athletics, Administrative Coordinators, and Major Gift Officers to achieve annual revenue targets.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for transformational funding and philanthropy across the university, meeting established financial goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with high-level prospects to secure five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts and collaborate with senior university leadership.
Key Competencies:
  • Proven track record of achieving financial targets and campaign success.
  • Proficiency in managing relationships with high-level prospects and securing major gifts.
  • Mastery of moves management and planned giving concepts.
  • Ability to craft customized pitches, proposals, and lead fundraising efforts.
  • Capacity to navigate internal processes, structures, and technology to advance relationships with campus partners.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in fundraising management.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and fundraising software, with knowledge of Raiser's Edge highly desirable.
  • Superior written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and relationship building acumen.
