Position Overview
St. Joseph High School is in search of a dedicated educator to teach English within the Languages and Literature Division.
The ideal candidate will:
- Foster both verbal and written proficiency in the English language through the lens of communication and literary studies;
- Exemplify the traits of a Josephine educator;
- Actively endorse St. Joe's Mission, Philosophy, and Institutional Standards;
- Develop and/or execute courses and units that effectively advance departmental objectives while adhering to the established curriculum framework;
- Strategically plan student learning objectives, instructional methods, and assessment strategies within a structured framework featuring common assignments and evaluations suitable for the academic level;
- Engage students in a dynamic and productive learning atmosphere;
- Collaborate with colleagues to create, assess, and enhance curriculum;
- Provide diverse and consistent assessments of student progress to accurately gauge learning outcomes;
- Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and school staff;
- Show a commitment to ongoing professional development, including sharing effective teaching practices and integrating educational technology;
- Collaborate with relevant administrators, division heads, and counselors to support students with unique learning requirements;
- Keep thorough and up-to-date records of grades and attendance;
- Supervise students outside of the classroom environment;
- Actively contribute to the school's co-curricular initiatives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, Education, or a related discipline;
- Teaching Credential (or the ability to obtain credential within five years of hire).
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's Degree;
- Experience working with high school students;
- Previous classroom teaching experience;
- Familiarity with CANVAS Learning Management System and 1:1 iPads in educational settings;
- Experience in a Catholic high school environment.
Compensation
The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on internal pay policies and budget considerations. New hires typically start at the lower end of the wage range. Various factors will be taken into account when making compensation decisions, including skill sets, experience, training, and departmental needs.
