Computational Research Opportunity

The Neurodegeneration Computational Fellows Training Program at Howard University offers a unique chance to develop and apply computational skills in neuroscience research. As a computational research fellow, you will participate in the program, working under the mentorship of host labs and contributing to analyzing datasets related to neurodegenerative diseases.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in data analysis using computational tools, identifying patterns or biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases under the guidance of a mentor.
  • Learn and apply statistical or machine learning methods to support research on disease mechanisms, following lab protocols.
  • Support data processing tasks, such as image analysis or sequence alignment, using provided software or scripts.
  • Prepare research summaries and present findings at symposia, lab meetings, or external conferences.
  • Contribute to team discussions, collaborating with lab members to integrate computational and experimental findings.
  • Maintain accurate records of research activities and adhere to ethical standards in data handling and reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Basic familiarity with programming (e.g., Python, R) or data analysis tools, with a strong interest in learning advanced computational techniques.
  • Educational background in neuroscience, biology, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • No prior expertise required, but some exposure to programming, data analysis, or neuroscience research is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated interest in neurodegeneration research and ability to work collaboratively under mentorship guidance.

Working Conditions

This position has no supervisory authority. The fellow will work directly under the supervision of a principal investigator or mentor in a host lab affiliated with the program, receiving guidance on research tasks and computational training.

Salary Range

$45,000-$55,000
