Antarctic Hazardous Waste Technician Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Hazardous Waste Technician in our Antarctic research station. This is a temporary duty position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the collection, processing, and packaging of all hazardous waste, including legal classification, required packaging, and proper labeling of all containers. They will also be expected to maintain a safe working environment, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Collect, process, and package all hazardous waste, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Perform qualitative testing on items, such as pH testing and flash point testing
  • Operate an articulating forklift safely and efficiently
  • Conduct quality checks on shipping containers and correct discrepancies immediately
  • Assist the Solid Waste Department as needed
Requirements:
  • College degree (2 additional years of experience will substitute)
  • Strong computer software experience
  • Able to lift 50 pounds consistently and wear a respirator
  • Valid Driver's License and Passport
  • Able to stand for up to 12 hours daily
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 year of Hazardous Materials shipping/characterization or reporting experience or 2 years of Environmental remediation
  • 1 year of High School Chemistry or equivalent
  • OSHA HazWOPER 40-Hour certification
