Job Overview

This position is specifically tailored for candidates with a background in construction disciplines. We are in search of a dedicated and seasoned Construction Cost Manager with a concentration on electrical systems and processes. The role encompasses active participation during the estimation and procurement phases, along with involvement in change management throughout project execution.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in cost management, particularly in electrical systems.
  • In-depth understanding of project cost control methodologies and practices.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and precision.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience in estimating and cost planning, including the creation and presentation of comprehensive cost plans.
  • Proficient in tendering and procurement processes, including managing pre-qualification stages, compiling tender lists, conducting tender analyses, and preparing contractual documents.
  • Skilled in managing post-contract cost variances and change control processes, with major changes referred to the line manager.
  • Accountable for conducting cost checks and valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate assessments.
  • Responsible for generating monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to clients.
  • Contributing to value engineering initiatives.
  • Negotiating and finalizing accounts.
  • Engaging with clients and other consultants at all project stages.
  • Leading a cost management team when appropriate, ensuring delivery on all responsibilities.
  • Involved in marketing and business development, including identifying opportunities for new business with existing clients and reporting these to the relevant line manager.
  • Assisting in the preparation of bid documentation.
  • Proposing enhancements to cost management procedures and templates.
  • Ensuring key information and learnings from each project are documented in the internal database.
  • Reporting structure may include Senior Cost Manager, Area Manager, or Associate Director.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Management of commissions to meet quality standards and efficiency.
  • Service delivery aligns with appointment conditions.
  • Development of strong relationships with clients and cross-functional team members.
  • Effective collaboration within the cost management team, including oversight of Assistant Cost Managers.
  • Identification of new business opportunities with existing clients.
  • Monitoring margin levels across all commissions.
  • Effective communication and retention of key information and data.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Establishing and implementing cost control systems for electrical projects.
  • Analyzing project budgets and reconciling actual costs with budgeted figures, addressing variances as needed.
  • Preparing cost estimates throughout all design phases.
  • Monitoring and preparing valuations.
  • Participating in value engineering discussions.
  • Preparing and evaluating change orders.
  • Developing the primary project budget.
  • Creating progress measurement criteria with vendors.
  • Gathering market cost data.
  • Supporting the quotation process by addressing inquiries from service/material proponents.
  • Generating cash flow forecasts for both internal and client use.
  • Quantifying materials and labor for all project phases.
  • Conducting cost-benefit analyses.
  • Reviewing project budgets following the issuance of design packages by the technical team.
  • Collaborating on the creation of recommendation reports.
  • Participating in weekly project and departmental meetings.
  • Issuing weekly progress reports on project costs, including forecasts of reimbursable expenses.
  • Producing regular reports on project cost performance for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Staying informed about industry best practices and trends related to cost management and electrical systems.
Skills Required:
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and manage subcontractors and vendors.
  • Experience with new build and fit-out projects.
  • Experience with Data Centers is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills and client-facing abilities.
