About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Backend Software Engineer to join our Cars Agency team at Hopper. As a Senior Software Engineer in our Cars Vertical, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, deploying, and operating complex backend systems that power our distribution channels for Car Rentals.
This role will involve working on feature development and infrastructure, allowing you to contribute to various aspects of our ecosystem.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to execute on significant opportunities, helping Hopper become a leader in the travel industry.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like- Developing and operating a robust and performant infrastructure that supports millions of bookings per year
- Solving complex technical and software architecture problems
- Shipping code quickly, iterating on features in an agile manner
- Leveraging and contributing to a rich microservice architecture system
- Collaborating with a diverse group of people, providing and receiving feedback for growth
- Assisting with the evolution and automation of operational processes
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and ability to develop Scala microservices (Scala is a plus, but not strictly required; experience with the JVM is strongly preferred)
- Experience building and managing multiple external API integrations
- Experience designing APIs
- Professional experience developing data-heavy platforms or APIs
- Experience working with gRPC/Protobuf is strongly preferred
- Functional programming experience is strongly preferred (Java, Scala, Haskell, F#, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Cloud Platforms (GCP knowledge is a plus)
- Kubernetes knowledge and experience are strongly preferred
- Understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability (concurrency, non-blocking IO, performance tuning)
- Experience in backend engineering positions and delivering user experience at scale
- Passionate focus on quality, writing testable code that performs and scales
- Experience working in cross-functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers and other highly skilled specialists
- Experience working in the travel industry would be a plus
