We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Africa Research Associate to join our team at Spelman College. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of research on political and economic trends across the African continent, with a focus on Nigeria, South Africa, and regional affairs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct in-depth research on market, economic, and political developments in major African economies, including Nigeria and South Africa.
- Lead research collaborations between the Africa practice and corporate teams on topics such as energy, climate policy, geo-technology, and critical minerals.
- Shape the practice's views on pan-African affairs, particularly relations with critical partners such as the US, China, and the EU.
- Publish short- and long-form research pieces featuring clear, forward-looking calls.
- Brief clients on developments in sectors including finance, energy, telecommunications, and retail.
- Manage special research projects commissioned by clients.
- 2-4 years of experience on Africa and other corporate sectors.
- An advanced degree in political science, economics, or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
- An understanding of financial markets and public finance is strongly preferred.
- On-the-ground experience in Africa is preferred.
- French proficiency is a bonus.
- Quantitative analysis/programming skills are a bonus.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- A collaborative and team-oriented spirit.
- Excellent analytical and presentation (oral and written) skills.
