Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Network Stack Developer to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Linux networking and be proficient in software development.

This role involves developing and maintaining the network stack of the Ubuntu Distribution.

You will work closely with the Foundations team to strengthen the tooling, services, documentation, robustness, security and clarity of Linux network abstractions.

The network stack is one of the most critical aspects of any operating system where stability, reliability and uptime are paramount.

Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and integrate core components involved in the network stack.

You will discuss design with other team members, upstream projects, mentor less senior engineers and participate in code reviews and design reviews.

You will also work with other teams to ensure architecture decisions improve the overall performance and experience of Ubuntu.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop high-quality, well-designed and well-documented software
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them
  • Contribute to technical documentation to make it the best of its kind
  • Display technical leadership internally, towards partners, and in the open source communities
  • Influence open-source projects and communities
  • Shape innovative product strategies

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

Deep Knowledge:

  • Linux networking from kernel to user space
  • Computer networks, including virtual networks, distributed systems as well as hardware offloading technologies

Programming Languages:

  • Fluency in at least one of Golang, C/C++, Rust or Python

Operating Systems:

  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)

Packaging Software:

  • Interest in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu

Academic Background:

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
