Organizational Context
The initiative aims to enhance the national strategies for empowering family farmers in Brazil, focusing on poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. The goal is to implement tailored policies and programs that bolster the capabilities of the national government, local authorities, and family farmers in areas such as rural extension services, credit access, land governance, market access, and cooperativism enhancement.
Reporting Structure
The incumbent will report to the Assistant Representative in FAO Brazil – Programme.
Technical Focus
The role involves conducting surveys, studies, and analyses regarding violence in rural areas, forests, and waterways, assessing the adverse effects of these issues on the economic and social conditions of family farmers and traditional communities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and gather data from institutional documents and tools.
- Prepare reports and data spreadsheets in a specified format relevant to the tasks outlined in this reference.
- Collaborate with supervisors to determine which states will be analyzed in each geographic region.
- Assist in project meetings with proposing entities, presenting partial and final results as requested.
- Support the project in workshops and meetings relevant to the development of assignment products.
- Monitor actions related to the assignment.
- Provide the MDA with relevant information and parameters concerning the assignment.
- Systematize materials produced during the Seminar Talks of the Earth.
- Develop the Work Plan and Products as specified in this reference.
Candidate Assessment Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in human sciences or Applied Social Sciences, in accordance with CAPES/CNPq knowledge area guidelines.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in human rights or related fields addressing violence against family farmers, landless individuals, indigenous groups, quilombolas, or other traditional communities. Candidates with specializations require 5 years of experience; those with a Master's degree need 3 years; and those with a Doctorate require 2 years of experience in relevant areas.
- Proficiency in English or Spanish and Portuguese (level C).
- Brazilian nationality or legal authorization to work in Brazil.
FAO Core Competencies

Preferred experience in data collection and systematization related to public policies for family farming (e.g., PRONERA, Agrarian Reform, policies for traditional communities).
