Linux Kernel Engineer Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Junior Linux Kernel Engineer in our organization. The role involves collaborating with senior mentors to gain a deep understanding of the Linux kernel and its distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with a globally distributed team to deliver high-quality results
  • Learning from senior mentors to develop expertise in the Linux kernel
  • Collaborating with external silicon, cloud, or hardware manufacturer delivery teams on bleeding-edge platforms
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues in the kernel reported by customers, the community, and discovered through rigorous testing
  • Delivering various flavors of the Ubuntu Linux kernel with minimal latency
  • Improving tooling and automation for delivery and test of Ubuntu Linux kernels
  • Submitting, reviewing, and applying kernel patches, working with both internal and external upstream maintainers

The ideal candidate will be a well-organized and motivated self-starter able to thrive in a remote work environment. Key qualifications include:

  • Programming experience in C and/or Rust
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git
  • Understanding of operating system kernel fundamentals
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal

Nice-to-have skills include interest and experience in Rust, Python, Bash scripting ability, prior experience with Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging, demonstrated experience with kernel patching and debugging, and strong grasp of device drivers, BSPs, and other low-level system engineering.
