At the World Health Organization (WHO), we are seeking a highly skilled Legal Officer to join our team in Brazil. This is an exciting opportunity to work with us on a fixed-term appointment basis.

The successful candidate will provide expert legal services, support, counseling, and advice to our Governing Bodies, Executive Management, and other stakeholders on various legal matters, including public international law, contracts, administrative law, technical cooperation agreements, or comparative law.

About the Role

  • Provide high-quality legal advice and counsel on a wide range of issues related to the application of national and international law to the Organization's programs and activities.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, treaties, agreements, resolutions, and other types of instruments with legal implications for the Organization.
  • Represent and defend the Organization before internal appeals processes, as well as judicial and quasi-judicial fora, as appropriate.
  • Conduct research and/or examine precedents on specific issues relating to the functions, structure, and activities of the Organization.

About You

  • You have a university degree in law from a recognized university and admission to practice in one of the States of Brazil.
  • You possess at least seven years of experience in public international law, contracts, administrative law, technical cooperation agreements, or comparative law, preferably with international organizations.
  • You have excellent analytical, organizational, and negotiating skills.
