Reporting Structure

The selected candidate will report directly to the Assistant Representative at FAO Brazil – Programme.

Technical Focus

The role involves conducting comprehensive surveys, research, and analysis regarding violence in rural areas, forests, and waterways, with a focus on understanding the adverse effects these issues have on the socio-economic conditions of family farmers and traditional communities.

Key Responsibilities


• Execute thorough bibliographic research and gather data from institutional documents and resources.

• Develop detailed reports and data spreadsheets in a specified format relevant to the tasks outlined in this Terms of Reference.

• Collaborate with supervisors to determine which states should be analyzed in each geographic region.

• Assist in project meetings with proposing entities, presenting interim and final results as requested by DEMCA/MDA, and provide necessary information and clarifications.

• Support the project in workshops and meetings pertinent to the development of assignment deliverables, as requested by DEMCA/SE/MDA.

• Aid in monitoring actions related to the assignment.

• Supply the MDA with relevant information and parameters concerning the subject matter of this Terms of Reference.

• Organize and systematize materials produced during the Seminar Talks of the Earth.

• Prepare the Work Plan and deliverables as outlined in this Terms of Reference.

Candidate Evaluation Criteria

Minimum Qualifications


• A Bachelor's degree in human sciences or Applied Social Sciences, as per the CAPES/CNPq knowledge areas.

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in human rights or related fields addressing violence against family farmers, landless individuals, indigenous peoples, quilombolas, and/or other traditional communities. Candidates with a specialization require 5 years of experience, those with a Master's degree need 3 years, and those with a Doctorate should have 2 years of relevant experience.

• Proficiency in English or Spanish and Portuguese at a working knowledge level (C).

• Brazilian nationality or legal authorization to work in Brazil.

Technical/Functional Skills

Experience in data collection and systematization related to public policies for family farming (such as PRONERA, Agrarian Reform, and policies for traditional peoples and communities) is desirable.
