Lead Database Design Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Architect to lead our relational database design and evolution.
Key Responsibilities:- Data Modelling: Develop logical and physical data models that scale with complex applications, ensuring maximum reliability and efficiency.
- Database Optimisation: Enhance query performance, indexing strategies, and partitioning techniques to meet the demands of distributed environments.
- Integration & Synchronisation: Ensure seamless ETL/ELT processes and robust data synchronisation across multiple systems.
- Governance & Security: Establish standards for data quality, retention, lineage, and compliance (SOC2, GDPR) to safeguard our digital assets.
- Collaboration: Partner with developers and product teams to ensure the database architecture supports real-world use cases, driving business value and growth.
- Documentation & Standards: Define naming conventions, coding standards, and best practices for long-term maintainability, enabling smooth team handovers.
- Expertise in relational database design, with a strong focus on PostgreSQL.
- Strong command of SQL, query optimisation, and performance tuning to deliver high-quality results.
- Experience with schema normalisation/denormalisation and partitioning strategies to support complex querying.
- Familiarity with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery planning to ensure business continuity.
- Solid understanding of security practices: encryption, access controls, and auditing to protect sensitive data.
- Background in designing for multi-tenant or large-scale transactional systems to meet the demands of growing businesses.
- Experience with replication, logical decoding, or offline-first synchronisation patterns to enhance system resilience.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL internals and extension ecosystem to leverage its full potential.
- Comfort working in cloud-native environments with CI/CD and containerised deployments to drive innovation.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts for reporting/analytics to inform business decisions.
