About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional System Software Engineer to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to the development of a leading open-source operating system.

As a System Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software components involved in the network stack of our Ubuntu Distribution. Your expertise in Linux networking, from kernel to user space, will be invaluable in shaping the future of our platform.

This role requires a deep understanding of computer networks, including virtual networks, distributed systems, and hardware offloading technologies. You will work closely with our Foundations team to deliver and maintain the core of our Ubuntu system.

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for Linux networking. Experience with Debian or Ubuntu is preferred, but not necessary. A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software components for the network stack of our Ubuntu Distribution
  • Collaborate with our Foundations team to deliver and maintain the core of our Ubuntu system
  • Work with upstream projects to ensure architecture decisions improve the overall performance and experience of our platform
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
  • Deep understanding of Linux networking, from kernel to user space
  • Professional experience with computer networks, including virtual networks, distributed systems, and hardware offloading technologies
  • Fluency in at least one programming language (C/C++, Golang, Rust, or Python)
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Interest in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu
