General Legal Counsel

**Job Purpose**:
To provide expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risk faced by the country are identified, reported and mitigated. To be the accountable lawyer to the executives of the country on all material legal issues that business faces.
To lead and manage the legal department in the country and work closely with regional colleagues.
**Key Activities**:
- Implement strategic legal policies, and set local policies that ensure that the Country’s exposure to legal and regulatory risk is managed in a commercially sensitive and practical manner;
- Support the Country’s senior management in the execution of business and operational strategies and initiatives;
- Support the Regional Legal function in managing all material legal and regulatory issues involving the Group that arise;
- Manage the legal aspects associated with Group, Regional and Country transactions, projects or initiatives.
- Participate in the key country governance committees as required, Audit Committee, Executive Management Meeting, Risk Management Meeting
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Law. Enrollment with the Brazilian Bar Association.
- Master Degree or LLM from qualified institutions
- International work experience a plus.
- Fluent English mandatory. Fluent Spanish a plus.
- As a rule, 10+ years experience in the Brazilian banking industry working in Legal Departments.
- Strong experience in building, managing and leading a team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Deep knowledge of the Brazilian banking industry and of the regulatory framework, including industry discussions and benchmarks
Strong advisor skills and values-oriented decision-making capabilities
