This position is located in the Country Office in the Federal Republic of Brazil (COFRB) with duty station in Brasilia, Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, Environment Team, Crimes that Affect the Environment (CAE), and the Programme Coordinator of the Law Enforcement Assistance Programme to fight Illegal Deforestation (LEAP), Border Management Branch (BMB), Division for Operations (DO) based at headquarters Vienna, and under the overall supervision of the Representative, COFRB.
**Responsibilities**:
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will perform the following specific tasks:
- Assist in the development, organization, coordination and preparation of workshops, study visits, training courses and special events under the framework of the project Strengthening the Criminal Justice System Response to Illegal Deforestation and Timber Trafficking - from Crime Scene to Court in Brazil, as well as the Law Enforcement Assistance Programme to fight Illegal Deforestation (LEAP).
- Liaise with counterparts within UNODC, both in Vienna and in the field and assist in building strategic partnerships; foster collaboration with relevant stakeholders in other parts of the United Nations, government officials, representatives of inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, to obtain and exchange relevant information.
- Participate in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, with a specific view to provide support to other Border Management Branch (BMB) projects and programmes implementing activities and/or studies in Brazil, including the regional UNODC ECOS project, when required.
- Ensure compliance with reporting deadlines including regular narrative and financial progress reports on the activities undertaken with project funds.
- Ensure compliance with human rights vetting for project beneficiaries including units and individuals before any assistance, including training, is provided by the project.
- Liaise with government counterparts including federal and state-level law enforcement authorities in order to ensure complementarity of UNODC BMB work with government priorities.
- Lead the organization of events ensuring the procurement of services is completed in conformity with rules and regulations, manage the participation of delegates ( travel and logistics) and draft reports from events.
- Assist in the identification of procurement needs, goods and services of the relevant forestry projects in Brazil and support the procurement process.
- As required, guide, orient, and support junior staff members, project personnel, consultants and individual contractors, and interns in their work.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in criminology, social science, political science, international relations, security studies or other relevant disciplines, is required.
A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in the area of crime prevention and environmental crime or a related area OR the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required.
Experience with technical assistance activities and experience in project management/development is desirable.
Experience in implementing technical assistance projects related to law enforcement authorities in the relevant region is desirable.
Experience related to supply chain security and container control is desirable.
Work experience within the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable
Languages
