**Forest Correspondent, TR Foundation (Brazil)**

**The position**
We are seeking an experienced, well-connected journalist in Brazil to produce stories on forest protection and loss, indigenous issues, land use change, climate change and sustainable food systems in Brazil, including broader economic and political issues around these topics.

Besides having a track record in Brazil for solid, innovative, on-the-ground reporting on forests and associated economic issues, you will have excellent command of English, great writing skills in English, strong news judgment, a desire to cover both economic and human-focused stories and preferably some multi-media skills.

You will be based in Brazil - ideally in the Amazon but other cities are also possible
- but will work with other members of the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s award-winning global news team to produce longer features, analysis pieces, news stories and video/multimedia projects that influence conversations and policy and shine a spotlight on forest-related issues.

**As our Forest Correspondent, you will**:

- Uncover, research and write stories about forest protection and loss, indigenous issues, land use change, climate change, sustainable food systems and their human and economic implications in Brazil and more broadly
- Produce a file that balances TRF’s unique angles on stories of the day with exclusive, more insightful stories, including investigations
- Work independently and with other reporters, our multi-media team and freelancers
- Develop a great source network to produce a forward-looking file with depth and good analysis
- Liaise with NGOs, government agencies, academics and other organisations working on these issues to uncover stories, and to promote the stories we produce
- Support the distribution of our stories online and via social media for maximum impact
- Other duties as assigned
**You should have**:

- At least 3 years of journalism experience, including a proven track record of exclusive stories
- Excellent command of spoken and written English
- Fluency in Portuguese
- A wide network of contacts and sources related to forest protection and loss and associated issues in Brazil
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively solo or within a team
- Demonstrated interest in issues around forest protection and loss and surrounding climate change and economic and sustainability issues
- Experience reporting on forest issues
- Aptitude for using social media as a journalism tool
- Some multi-media skills in photography, audio and/or video shooting and production

This position is based in Brazil. The salary is negotiable according to qualifications. This is a year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.
