It is expected that, at the end of the research, databases and computational routines will be structured and documented to provide statistical support for studies to assess the socioeconomic impacts of the mineral sector in Brazil.
The research intends to contribute to the improvement of public policies in the mineral exploration sector in Brazil through a comprehensive and in-depth sectorial diagnosis at a national and global level, which will make it possible in the future to build instruments that increase transparency and social participation in this field.

**Responsibilities**:
Within the scope of the actions developed by the formulators of public policies applied to the mineral exploration and transformation sector in Brazil, countless information and technical analyzes are necessary to subsidize sectoral policies. However, much of this information is still dispersed in databases not yet harmonized. Likewise, for many sectoral studies there is still insufficient information on the sources, criteria and methodologies applied, making it difficult to compare with other data and related international studies.
In addition, the country lacks recent more in-depth assessments of the dimensions and potential of the market for the mineral sector, both nationally and globally. Such evaluations are fundamental for the elaboration of transparent, consistent, and effective public policies in the fulfillment of their objectives.
The research intends to contribute to the improvement of public policies in the mineral exploration sector in Brazil through a comprehensive and in-depth sectorial diagnosis at national and global levels, which will allow in the future to build instruments that increase transparency and participation in this field.
The purpose of the consultancy is carry out mapping, consolidation, and harmonization of relevant databases for the mining sector in Brazil and worldwide, as well as producing indicators, statistical methods and computational routines that support sectoral research and public policy evaluations.
The consultant performs extraction, tabulation and programming (SAS, R and Stata) activities and analyze data using econometric tools.

The work to be performed by the consultant is to program, extract, process and analyze data related to mining industry and socioeconomic indicators, as well as to implement strategies aimed to automatize the processes of gathering and treating online information of interest.
METHODOLOGY AND STRUCTURE:
The assessment of the economic impact of the mineral economy in Brazil must consider investment factors, workforce composition and interaction with foreign trade, geolocation of companies and mineral deposits, etc., which requires the survey, treatment and systematization of microdata for the following databases, among others of interest to the project:

- RAIS company (RAIS) (to obtain company descriptors, such as number of local units, human capital stocks of employees, etc.);
- Registration of Export and Import Operations (SECEX/MDIC); Export and import data (CNPJ, Value Range) are available on the portal of the foreign trade secretariat (SECEX);
- Registration of Export and Import Operations (SECEX/MDIC). Export and import data (CNPJ, Product, Value, Destination/Origin, Volume/Weight);
- Annual Mining Report and other censuses of mineral extractive activity by the National Mining Agency (ANM);
- Annual reports from the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM);
- Municipal GDP (IBGE) to control regional factors in the Extractive Activities sectors.

The consultant must also develop computational routines that allow for the automation of activities of organization, tabulation, consolidation and cross-referencing of information between the various databases described, in addition to creating strategies to search for and interpret new secondary data available that are of interest for the research (data scrapping / machine learning). It should also provide statistical calculations, projections and simulations that support the analyzes and evaluations carried out in the project.
In parallel, other activities to support empirical research will eventually be carried out, such as: search and review of specialized literature; review and update of statistical data; and analysis of studies already produced in the areas of knowledge relevant to the object of this Term of Reference.

Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: Post-graduation in the area of economics, engineering, statistics or related areas
Experience: - Minimum of 3 years of experience in the areas of finance, economics, microeconomics, quantitative methods, computational methods and related areas.
- Other desirable requirements: - Microdata experience of the IBGE, IPEA and BACEN databases;
- Knowledge of programming in statistical software, preferably SAS, R e/ou Stata.
