Job Overview:
Our success relies on healthy, productive soil, and we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Soil Scientist to help us achieve our goals. In this role, you will analyze soil health, recommend improvements, and develop strategies to optimize cassava yields and production through sustainable soil management practices while preserving the long-term health and productivity of our farmlands. As a Soil Scientist, you will play an important role in advancing our mission to support rural communities through innovative agricultural solutions.
**Responsibilities**:
- Conduct comprehensive soil mapping and analyses to assess soil properties, nutrient levels, test for pH, and potential limitations for cassava cultivation use.
- Monitor soil conditions throughout the growing season and provide timely recommendations to address any issues.
- Develop and recommend sustainable soil management practices, including crop rotation and organic amendments.
- Conduct research and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of different soil management practices.
- Collect and analyze data on soil properties, nutrients levels, and crop yields.
- Prepare detailed records and reports on soil data, analyses, and summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with agronomists and farmers to provide training and support on soil conservation techniques.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Soil Science, Agronomy, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in soil science research or consulting, preferably in a tropical climate.
- Strong understanding of soil physics, chemistry, biology, and fertility management,particularly as they relate to cassava cultivation.
- Proven experience in soil analysis, crop management, or agricultural research,preferably with root crops like cassava.
- Proven ability to conduct soil surveys, analyze soil samples, and present finding seffectively.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively with women's groups.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Dutch is a plus. Sranan Tongo is a valuable asset.
