At Avenues, children act as artists every day: making creative choices, manipulating materials, exploring themes, ideas and meanings. Through Performing Arts, children also develop social and fine motor skills while learning through the target language. As the performing arts teacher, you will:

Integrated Curriculum Design & Facilitation

  • Design and implement PBL-aligned performing arts experiences that integrate drama, movement, and voice with interdisciplinary themes.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-create units where performing arts serve as tools for inquiry, reflection, and presentation.
  • Incorporate aesthetics and creativity into learning, using performance as a way to express ideas, stories, and emotions across disciplines.

Communication, Expression & Body Awareness

  • Guide students in developing public speaking, vocal projection, active listening, and expressive communication through theater and performance activities.
  • Teach body language and gesture as essential tools for storytelling, emotional intelligence, and social presence.

Learning with the Whole Body

  • Facilitate physical engagement with learning through movement, improvisation, and embodiment practices that deepen understanding and support kinesthetic learners.
  • Use performance to explore empathy, identity, and community building.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

  • Integrate SEL competencies—such as self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship skills—into artistic processes and classroom culture.
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel empowered to take risks, collaborate, and express themselves authentically.

Performances and Showcases

  • Plan, direct, and produce student performances that demonstrate learning across projects and celebrate growth in performance, voice, and movement.
  • Support students in creating original works that reflect their ideas, perspectives, and cultural identities.

Community Engagement

  • Involve families and the broader community in performances and creative exhibitions, enhancing the visibility of student voice and the arts.
  • Collaborate with local artists or cultural institutions to enrich the program and provide real-world contexts for learning.
