Ocean Infinity is seeking a Software Team Lead to provide hands-on technical leadership while guiding and supporting a high-performing software engineering team. This role sits within our Software organisation and combines strong engineering capability with day-to-day team leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, resilient applications that support our wider technology ambitions.
Reporting to the Head of Software, you will act as a bridge between engineering delivery and technical leadership, contributing directly to system design and implementation while creating the conditions for the team to do their best work.
What will you do:
• Lead a team of backend and frontend software engineers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.
• Remain hands-on in the design, implementation, and evolution of software solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new features.
• Take accountability for the performance, quality, reliability, and resilience of applications owned by the team.
• Design, implement, or prototype services for technically complex products using containerised microservice architectures.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Identify and remove impediments to team progress, enabling consistent delivery.
• Follow established development and quality practices, while constructively challenging and improving them where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for making sound technical and engineering decisions.
• Document software designs, decisions, and processes where appropriate to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.
Who you are:
You are a technically strong engineer who enjoys leading by example. You balance delivery with people leadership, understand how to build trust within a team, and take pride in shipping reliable software. You are comfortable making decisions, supporting engineers at different stages of their development, and working closely with stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
Qualifications and skills:
Essential:
· Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
· Solid experience as a software engineer across backend, frontend, or full-stack development.
· Proven experience leading or mentoring engineers within a software development team.
· Experience working with modern programming languages such as C++, C#, Java, or Python, and/or frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.
· Practical experience with microservice architectures and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
· Experience designing and consuming APIs, including RESTful architectures.
· Familiarity with event-driven architectures or event-streaming platforms.
· Strong understanding of Agile development practices.
· Experience using version control systems such as Git.
· Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively in fast-moving environments.
· Clear communicator with strong leadership and collaboration skills.
Desirable:
· Familiarity with basic web application security concepts.
· Experience working with real-time data or distributed systems.
· Exposure to IoT technologies, including communication protocols and cloud platforms.
· Fluent written and spoken English.
Salary: The salary varies for this position as we are recruiting in multiple regional locations and job grades. The salary process is based on skills, abilities, and experience required.
What you can expect:
At Ocean Infinity, we believe in creating equal opportunities for all, celebrating each and everyone's differences. We are driven by transforming the industry, through our technology, thoughts, behaviours and actions. Being inclusive and respectful to all is fundamental to who we are. It is the right thing to do and enables innovation and creativity to thrive.
There is more work to be done, and we know that we aren't perfect, but our commitment to these values is unwavering. They are central to our mission and the impact we have on the industry, meaning, we cannot live without them.
