The Medical Lead will focus on practical implementation that protects employee health, reduces operational risks, and mitigates legal exposure.

Key job responsibilities

• Serve as the official Occupational Health Medical Control Program (PCMSO) coordinator before Brazilian regulatory authorities, taking legal responsibility for NR-7 compliance across all Amazon Brazil sites

• Develop and implement a comprehensive occupational health management system that integrates across WHS, GMH, Employee Relations (ER), and third-party providers

• Lead strategic oversight of health program implementation while coordinating with existing frameworks (PGR under NR1, SESMT under NR4)

• Establish effective data collection and analysis systems to identify health trends and guide strategic preventive actions

• Implement comprehensive analyses of medical examination results and develop preventive measures as required by NR7

• Ensure integration between identified workplace risks and execution of regulatory-required medical examinations

• Direct early detection and intervention programs for musculoskeletal symptoms to reduce MSD incident rates and Days Away From Work (DAFW)

• Coordinate return-to-work processes through medical assessments and transitional duty placements

• Provide guidance to site-level SESMT teams while maintaining operational governance

• Collaborate with Legal to ensure documentation meets requirements for regulatory inspections under CLT Article 168

• Support compliance with Labor Public Prosecutor's Office (MPT) investigations related to SESMT and PGR standards

• Provide strategic direction and manage the occupational health services across Brazil, ensuring high-quality support and compliance with local health, safety, and medical regulations. Provide strategic direction for Brazil, including liaising with Brazil site-level third-party occupational health services.

• Serve as a subject matter expert on occupational health, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders at all levels and liaising with local authorities and occupational health bodies.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation changes affecting workplace health and ensure compliance with Amazon's policies as well as all local health, safety, and medical regulations.

• Define, monitor, and report health-related metrics to WHS GMH team leadership to measure program success, identify areas for improvement, and inform global and regional health strategies.

• Oversee the proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of workplace health risks including physical and psychosocial factors and develop programs to safeguard employee well-being.

A day in the life
In your role as Occupational Health Physician, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for occupational health services and preventive health management programs. You will work closely with a dedicated team of WHS professionals while collaborating with internal stakeholders, and local health authorities to identify and mitigate workplace health risks. As a subject matter expert, you will offer essential guidance on occupational health, regulatory, and compliance matters, and you will serve as the primary point of contact for localizing health policies. You will have the unique opportunity to shape how health programs are managed across Brazil by driving cross-functional initiatives and partnering with a dynamic team of health professionals. Your leadership will not only keep employees healthy and safe, but strengthen key partnerships that are critical to our organizational success.
