Client is a VC-backed Series B startup building the future of conversational commerce in Latin America, focusing on WhatsApp as a 360° AI engagement platform for retailers. The company operates across  USA, Latin America and Europe with offices in São Paulo, Bogotá, San Francisco, and Europe.

Role Summary
Client seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead one of its core AI and platform engineering teams. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will oversee a distributed team of 10-20 engineers, guiding technical direction, execution, and team development. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with people leadership, driving high-impact outcomes across AI, platform infrastructure, and enterprise-scale solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and retain a high-performing engineering team across multiple locations.
  • Define technical strategy in partnership with the CTO, focusing on scalability, architecture, and reliability.
  • Stay hands-on with design reviews, code quality, and architectural decisions.
  • Ensure product quality, performance, and stability through strong testing and operational practices.
  • Drive engineering processes such as sprint planning, technical reviews, and postmortems.
  • Partner with Product Management and Sales to deliver launches and enterprise integrations.
  • Collaborate directly with enterprise clients to support complex integrations with Meta APIs, CRMs, and commerce platforms.
  • Own team hiring, development, and performance management.
  • Cultivate leaders and foster a culture of ownership and innovation.
  • Build scalable systems, processes, and teams that extend beyond your direct scope.

Requirements

  • MS or BS in Computer Science.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in management or technical leadership roles.
  • Proven success leading teams of 1020 engineers, ideally distributed.
  • Strong background in backend and AI systems (Python, AWS, Kafka, Postgres, DynamoDB, CI/CD).
  • Experience defining technical strategy and driving architecture at scale.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Sales, and Customer Success teams.
  • Experience with enterprise customer engagement and third-party integrations (e.g., Meta APIs, CRMs, Shopify, VTEX, SAP).
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and leadership skills.
