OverviewReports to: Associate Director of EngineeringDiscipline: EngineeringPrimary Focus: Team effectivenessCompany Strategic Responsibility: NoSquad Strategic Responsibility: YesLine Management Responsibility: YesSalary: up to $110k per annum, dependent on Location and Experience.This is a remote position and is open to applications based in the Americas region, with EST time coverage.Job OverviewAs an Engineering Manager you'll balance technical oversight and people management with strategic team leadership, to ensure best practices around software development.You will be responsible for the wellbeing and ongoing professional development of the engineers within your team, supporting individuals and enhancing project development through the excellence of those in your team.You will be the primary point of contact for them to come to with any difficulties that they are facing.You should have thorough knowledge of the challenges of working in engineering, delivering projects to clients and of global remote working.You should be confident in collaborating with delivery and commercial teams to ensure the smooth running of the squad.You\'ll be able to anticipate and identify problems as they arise, addressing them yourself, or escalating them to the relevant discipline lead when necessary.Your role will include consistently gathering actionable feedback and delivering this to your reports in a constructive manner, utilising feedback as a tool for growth and continuous improvement, encouraging open dialogue and accountability amongst the squad.Engineering Managers are required to do client and other developmental work, however your primary focus will be ensuring different engineers work together effectively at scale.You should have a broad knowledge of the technologies used within the company, so that you are able to support and direct members of your team.You will develop thorough knowledge of the company\'s engineering framework and philosophy to confidently support your team to acquire the skills they need to reach the next level.ResponsibilitiesComplete Performance Reviews and 1:1s for your reportsGather and provide professional feedback to all reports from their respective project teamsManage, coach and mentor your reports, supporting their development and career progressionRepresent your engineering team in meta-level discussions such as team structure, wellbeing, and professional developmentLead a cross-functional squad, setting clear goals and creating a culture of accountabilityFacilitate ceremonies such as retrospectives and squad check-insCollaborate with other engineering managers and discipline leads to ensure consistency in practices and alignment of the squadsTake an active role in identifying gaps in engineering knowledge and steering training as requiredKeep up to date with current engineering best practices in WordPress, while keeping an eye on emerging trends and shifts in new technologies that can be used in daily developmentRequirementsBroad understanding of technologies used by the company, e.g. WordPress, React, APIs, software architecture etcProven experience as an Engineering Manager or Squad Leader in an agency environmentExcellent communication, team building and organisational skillsExperienced and capable of identifying an individual\'s areas for improvementExperience with gathering constructive feedback and delivering it to team membersConfident in addressing interpersonal issuesExperienced in a remote working environmentA growth mindset with a passion for helping engineers succeed in their careersBenefits100% remote, async-first cultureEnhanced paid parental leave policy35 day holiday policySpecial Exceptions leave for milestone life events (after one year of service)Sickness and carers leaveRegular company retreatConference and training budgetRemote working allowanceMatched pension / 401K policiesHealthcare Covered (US)Contributions towards eye tests and glasses if neededSeniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeFull-timeJob functionIT Services and IT ConsultingReferrals increase your chances of interviewing at Human Made by 2xGet notified about new Engineering Manager jobs in Brazil.#J-*****-Ljbffr
