Full Stack Software Engineer

About the RoleAs a Software Engineer at BWZ you are responsible for the whole development process, starting with discovery, planning and development, and ending with testing and deployment.You will work in an environment that offers freedom with responsibility and encourages simplicity with risk taking.You will be working in BWZ's Tech Team, heavily involved in the development of our back-end systems and integrations (using Node.js, Python, AWS, etc.), and participating in the development and architecture of our multi-site Web Platform (built in WordPress) and our Ad Tech Platform (built in Ruby on Rails), among other systems and products.You can work remotely or in a flexible regime if you are in Curitiba, Brazil.Please note that our teams work in the PST time zone, and your hours should be at least partially compatible with it.What You'll Be DoingReporting to the Technology Director, you will work with the BWZ Labs Team and closely with the Web Platform.You will develop internal systems used by dozens of employees, as well as customer-facing systems used by thousands of clients.You don't have to know all the answers, because you will have time to research and learn new technologies and solutions.You will be encouraged to make suggestions and implementations that fit our product needs to better perform and scale.Who You AreYou are a software engineer with meaningful experience building web applicationsYou are good at curating your own prioritiesYou are curious about how things are done and how they workYou are good at communicating your deliveries and demands with pairs and stakeholdersYou don't like repetitive tasks, so you automate everything you canYou like to test new things, and you don't mind if it doesn't work and move onHow Your Success Will Be MeasuredWe don't like to measure effort; we focus on effectivenessYou will be accountable for your results, not the hours you workedYou will be part of a team; collaboration is a key factorYour Skillset IncludesCuriosity to understand how things workAn openness to learning new technologyGreat time-management and prioritization skillsOpenness to learn and use new programming languagesYou are comfortable reading/writing documentation for othersGood communication in EnglishRequired Experience for this PositionMeaningful experience building and maintaining web applications with modern frameworks (e.g., SolidJS, React, Next.js, or similar)Proven track record of full-stack development, covering frontend, backend, and deploymentStrong experience with CMS platforms, particularly WordPress (custom themes, plugins, REST API, headless setups)Solid understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript and structuring large-scale applicationsExperience with backend development in Node.js, PHP, or similar languagesFamiliarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and how to optimize queries for performanceGood understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar) and modern deployment pipelinesNice to Haves for this PositionExperience with AWS-based architectures (EC2, Lambda, S3, CloudFront)Familiarity with Cloudflare or similar platforms for caching, performance, and securityHands-on experience with headless CMS approaches, connecting WordPress with frontend frameworks like Next.js or SolidJSStrong grasp of performance optimization for high-traffic websites (Core Web Vitals, CDN strategies, server-side rendering)Knowledge of MVC or component-based frameworksExperience developing and consuming APIs, including GraphQLComfort with writing automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and implementing CI/CD pipelinesExposure to SEO best practices and accessibility standards for modern web platformsAbout UsBlack and White Zebra is a rapidly growing, independent media tech company headquartered in Vancouver, B.C.
