respiratory care.JOB SUMMARYIs accountable for the delivery of nursing and patient care services; acts as a clinical and administrative resource during off-hour, weekend and holiday shifts.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMONITOR QUALITY CLINICAL PRACTICE AND PATIENT CARE SERVICE DELIVERYBy assessing patient status, identifying unstable medical conditions and taking appropriate action.By directing the delivery of competent age specific nursing care to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.By validating that care is consistent with the medical regimen, rehabilitation team goals, the nursing plan of care and age of the patient.By maintaining a safe physical environment conducive to the delivery of health care services.By conducting rounds on all units to assess patient care needs.By maintaining a patient focused care environment within the philosophy of Good Shepherd and the Patients Bill of Rights.By representing GOOD SHEPHERD services, philosophy and quality to external customers.Supervises respiratory staff and assigns work as indicated during off-hour, weekend and holiday shifts.DEMONSTRATES FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITYBy effectively assigning staff to meet the needs of patients.By providing supplies, equipment, medication, and transport services for patients as needed.By identifying and providing input to Nurse Managers on work methods that reduce the cost and/or time required to deliver patient care.By developing an environment conducive to effective time management for all nursing staff.By monitoring budget variances in collaboration with Nurse Managers and assisting with implementing corrective actions and employs conflict resolution techniques.DIRECT STAFF TO ACCOMPLISH STAFF JOB RESULTSBy translating institutional goals, values and objectives to staff and others.By establishing and supporting the attainment of hospital and departmental goals.By assisting the Nurse Managers and Program Directors in effective communication among team members.By identifying areas for performance improvement, measuring data, instituting corrective action plans and evaluating results.By assuring that non-licensed personnel have achieved competency to carry out their delegated roles and responsibilities.By effectively counseling and educating individuals whose performance does not meet standards.By acknowledging performance excellence.By coaching and mentoring licensed associates on an annual basis.By orienting and evaluating the competency of agency, float, resource pool and/or per diem associates or delegating the responsibility to an appropriate individual.MAINTAINS SAFE AND HEALTHY WORK ENVIRONMENTBy maintaining compliance with professional, regulatory and governmental standards of care.By applying quality improvement techniques to improve deficiencies.By reviewing and revising policies, procedures and standards of care including appropriate references.By demonstrating knowledge of responsibilities in an emergency situation and conducting drills (Code Blue, Fire, Internal Disaster, Bomb Threat, Priority Alert).By responding to visitor injuries if the Employee Health Nurse is unavailable.CONTRIBUTES TO TEAM EFFORTBy developing channels of communication which will enhance working relations and service delivery between nursing shifts, units and hospitals.By establishing cooperative, collaborative relationships among disciplines and departments.By communicating effectively with the Nursing Management Team.Attends leadership meetings.ASSURES COMMUNICATION OF SHIFT EVENTSBy preparing a clinical and management report at the end of each shift.By completing a Supervisor's Shift Report for the Administrator/Nurse Executive.By analyzing and routing IIRs and MITs per policy.DEMONSTRATES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTBy remaining current in nursing and management knowledge and skills.By maintaining active membership in professional organizations.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an staff nurse requiredPrior supervisory experience preferredLicenses / CertificationsRegistered Nurse license requiredBasic Life Support / CPR, as a healthcare provider, per the American Heart
