The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University.Hiring staff "for fit" makes significant contributions to Howard University's overall mission.At Howard University, we prioritize well-being and professional growth.Here is what we offer:Health & Wellness:Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus mental health supportWork-Life Balance:PTO, paid holidays, flexible work arrangementsFinancial Wellness:Competitive salary, 403(b) with company matchProfessional Development:Ongoing training, tuition reimbursement, and career advancement pathsAdditional Perks:Wellness programs, commuter benefits, and a vibrant company cultureJoin Howard University and thrive with usResearch Assistant will contribute to interdisciplinary projects within the Department of Internal Medicine at the Howard University College of Medicine, focusing onArtificial Intelligence (AI),Machine Learning (ML),Computational Medicine, andData Analytics.This position supports ongoing research aimed at developing predictive, diagnostic, and intervention models that advance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and address complex challenges in precision and population health.The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and research collaborators to perform data-driven analysis, computational modeling, and literature reviews.This role provides valuable hands-on experience for students interested in research at the intersection of AI and medicine.Compliance Salary Range DisclosureDuties and Responsibilities:Assist withdata collection, curation, preprocessing, and integrationfrom diverse biomedical and clinical sources.Conductexploratory data analysis, data visualization, and feature engineering.Develop, train, and evaluatemachine learning and deep learning models.Review scientific literature and summarize findings to support ongoing research projects.Contribute totechnical documentation, manuscripts, and progress reports.Collaborate effectively withinterdisciplinary teamsacross research and clinical domains.Maintain accurate records of research workflows, results, and code repositories.Minimum Qualifications:Current enrollment in aBachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree programinComputer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.Must be at least athird-year undergraduate student (Junior or Senior status)or higher.Demonstrated proficiency inPythonand related libraries such asPandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.Familiarity withdata analysis and visualizationusing tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly.Foundational understanding ofAI, machine learning, and data science concepts.Stronganalytical thinking, problem-solving, and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working withbiomedical, clinical, or public health datasets.Familiarity withcloud computing platforms(e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure).Experience withversion control systems(e.g., Git/GitHub).Priorresearch or academic publication experience.
