purpose of job: The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment with the rest of the world.We are the department for economic growth.We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the UK.The overseas network is a vital asset in delivering the UK's trade and investment ambitions.Embedded within British embassies and high commissions, our trade teams—led by HM Trade Commissioners—work in close coordination with diplomatic staff to promote UK exports, attract investment, and improve market access.Through commercial diplomacy, they build strategic relationships, provide expert market insight, and support UK businesses to navigate local conditions and seize opportunities.This integrated approach ensures our efforts align with broader UK priorities, including sectoral growth, supply chain resilience, and clean energy transition.The DBT team across Latin America and the Caribbean (LATAC) is led by the HM Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean, and his team is responsible for: growing the overall trade and investment relationship between the UK and LATAC markets improving market access for British companies, including small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) developing trade policy.Information About the Role The G7 Head of Investment will lead and shape high-impact investment promotion activities across the Latin America and Caribbean (LATAC) region, with responsibility for a strategically significant and multi-disciplinary portfolio.Operating with substantial autonomy and authority, the G7 will apply advanced judgement, creativity, and strategic insight to develop innovative approaches that respond to complex and evolving market conditions.This role involves designing and delivering regional investment strategies, influencing policy development, managing critical stakeholder relationships at senior levels, and driving the attraction of high-value investment from LATAC markets into the UK.The G7 will play a key role in cross-government coordination, represent DBT in major external engagements, and contribute to the UK's international economic reputation.Roles and responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Policy Shaping: Lead the development and implementation of local and regional investment strategies, contributing to DBT's global policy agenda.Apply advanced judgement and creativity to design new approaches that respond to evolving market dynamics and government priorities.Cross-Government & External Influence: Represent DBT in major regional and international forums.Build and maintain influential relationships with senior stakeholders across government, industry, and international partners.Reconcile competing priorities to deliver coherent, high-impact investment outcomes.Complex Programme Management: Oversee multi-sector investment programmes, ensuring strategic alignment, risk mitigation, and measurable impact.Lead cross-functional teams and manage resources to deliver value for money and long-term economic benefits.Expert Advisory Role: Provide expert insight and recommendations to senior leadership and policy teams.Influence upstream market-making interventions and contribute to the design of investment propositions that support UK and partner country objectives.Operational Oversight & Strategic Decision-Making: Operate independently within broad strategic parameters, making decisions that impact multiple business areas.Escalate only issues with significant policy or resource implications.Team Leadership & Organisational Development: Lead and mentor junior staff, embedding DBT's vision and values.Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the investment team.Reputation Management & External Engagement: Act as a key ambassador for DBT, enhancing the UK's reputation as a leading investment destination.Ensure that investment activities contribute positively to the UK's international standing and economic objectives.Collaborate with FCDO colleagues, both in the UK and across UK Missions in the LATAC region, to inform upstream "market-making" interventions that support partner country objectives and support the growth of the UK economy.Language requirements: Language: English and Portuguese Level of language required: Fluent written and spoken (CEFR C1 essential; C2 in at least one language preferable) Resources managed (staff and expenditure): 1 x HEOBudgetary resource as allocated from wider DBT Country Team.Essential qualifications, skills and experience Essential on arrival: At least 10 years of experience on strategic leadership in investment, economic development, or international trade.Experience managing complex, multi-country programmes and influencing policy outcomes Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills at senior levels Deep understanding of LATAC and/or UK business environments Demonstrated ability to shape cross-government initiatives and external partnerships Desirable qualifications, skills and experience Desirable qualifications, skills and
