We are seeking a dependable and proactive Family Law Paralegal / Legal Assistant to join the Mid‑Maine Chamber of Commerce. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable handling sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion. This position supports all aspects of family law cases (and some civil litigation) from initial intake through final resolution. Key ResponsibilitiesFile court pleadings and other legal documents Draft, proofread, and format routine legal documents and correspondence Organize and maintain electronic case files and client records Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, and client communications Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other parties Track case progress and assist with case management to ensure deadlines are met Perform various administrative and office support tasks as needed QualificationsAssociate’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent work experience required Minimum 2 years of family law experience preferred Familiarity with ResearchMaine and/or E‑Filing systems strongly desired Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated empathy and professionalism when interacting with clients in emotionally charged situations Ideal Candidate AttributesDependable and highly organized Excellent attention to detail Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times Works well independently and as part of a team This is a contract‑to‑hire position offering a great opportunity to grow within a supportive and professional legal team.
