Reports To Instrument Supervisor Background The Technician is responsible for executing maintenance and preservation tasks efficiently and safely to ensure the reliability and longevity of equipment. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance and preservation activities, including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, blasting, spraying/painting, isolation and reinstatement, greasing application, and the preservation of topside items like flanges, bolts and valves. The technician is also responsible for ensuring that his supervisor is made aware of all activities according to procedure, especially when safety is an issue. The technician/operator will demonstrate exemplary safety awareness and technical competence in all aspects of maintenance and preservation work on and around the vessel. Authority The Instrument Technician is authorised to maintain Instrument assets and systems safely. Immediate Subordinates Subcontractors, Visitors, Vendor Representatives Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards 1) Dismantle and Reassemble Instrumentation Equipment : Identify potential sources of hazard prior to dismantling, use correct procedures and method of dismantling, carry out the correct isolation and disconnection procedure, identify, check and prepare components, apply appropriate tests and use test equipment to ensure reassembly is correct and effective. 2) Monitor and Maintain the Condition of Instrumentation Equipment : Adjust instruments to meet the operating specification, adjust with minimum disruption to ongoing activities and resource waste, monitor and record work in history or log. 3) Diagnose Faults in Equipment : Respond promptly to problems in line with approved procedures, select appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures and apply them methodically, carry out visual, close, and detailed inspections on equipment, use the results of inspections to determine appropriate actions, record an accurate and full description in the appropriate document history. 4) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures : Identify, halt, and report unplanned discharges to the environment, use relevant PPE to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures, dispose of equipment, waste, or other materials according to correct procedure, enforce environmental protection and pollution control effectively with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors. 5) Emergency Response : Carry out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill), demonstrate competence in emergency response drills and exercises. Recruitment Only-Generic Functional Competencies Offshore – Demonstrate an Understanding of PandIds Offshore – Handover Offshore – Diagnosis and Fault Finding Offshore – Reports Offshore – Computerised Maintenance Management System Offshore – Planning Work Offshore – Dismantling, Repair and Reassemble Equipment Offshore – Hazardous Area Classification Offshore – Safety Management Pre-hire Qualifications And Experience Proven experience and/or qualified to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Instrument Engineering or local equivalent. Experience desired with offshore experience preferred. Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities. Good experience of Permit to Work, Instrument/Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment. COMP ex E’X’ course preferred.
