Reports To Instrument Supervisor Background The Technician is responsible for executing maintenance and preservation tasks efficiently and safely to ensure the reliability and longevity of equipment. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance and preservation activities, including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, blasting, spraying/painting, isolation and reinstatement, greasing application, and the preservation of topside items like flanges, bolts and valves. The technician is also responsible for ensuring that his supervisor is made aware of all activities according to procedure, especially when safety is an issue. The technician/operator will demonstrate exemplary safety awareness and technical competence in all aspects of maintenance and preservation work on and around the vessel. Authority The Instrument Technician is authorized to maintain Instrument assets and systems safely. Immediate Subordinates Subcontractors, Visitors, Vendor Representatives Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards 1) Dismantle and Reassemble Instrumentation Equipment 1Identify potential sources of hazard prior to dismantling. 2Use correct procedures and correct method of dismantling. 3Carry out the correct isolation and disconnection procedure. 4Identify, check and prepare components. 5Apply appropriate tests and test equipment to ensure reassembly is correct and effective. 2) Monitor and Maintain the condition of Instrumentation Equipment. 1Adjust instruments to meet the operating specification. 2Adjust with minimum disruption to any ongoing activities and minimum waste of resources. 3Monitor and record what has been carried out in work history or log. 3) Diagnose Faults in Equipment. 1Respond promptly to problems in line with approved procedures. 2Select appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures and apply them methodically. 3Carry out Visual, Close and Detailed inspections on ”˜Ex” equipment. 4Use the results of inspections to determine the appropriate actions to take. 5Record an accurate and full description in the appropriate document history. 4) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures. 1Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure and regulation. 2Relevant PPE is used to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures. 3Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure. 4Environmental protection and pollution control are enforced effectively with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors. 5) Emergency Response 1 Carry Out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill). 2 Demonstrate competence in Emergency Response drills and exercises. Recruitment Only-Generic Functional Competencies Offshore - Demonstrate an Understanding of PandIds Offshore - Handover Offshore - Diagnosis and Fault Finding Offshore - Reports Offshore - Computerised Maintenance Management System Offshore - Planning Work Offshore - Dismantling, Repair and Reassemble Equipment Offshore - Hazardous Area Classification Offshore - Safety Management Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience Proven experience and/or qualified to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Instrument Engineering or local equivalent. Experience desired with offshore experience preferred. Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities. Good experience of Permit to Work, Instrument/Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment. COMP ex E’X’ course preferred.
