- He/she will provide technical advice and support the execution of activities related to the implementation of the programme in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Legal Data Protection Assistant will work in close collaboration with the operational, technical and communications teams of UN-Habitat in Rio de Janeiro and local project teams, staff of other UN Agencies, Government officials, media, multilateral and bilateral donors and civil society. The Legal Data Protection Assistant shall be paid a monthly allowance, upon presentation and approval by the Head of Brazil Office and OiC for Southern Cone Office, of monthly activities' report.

- Background The main mandate of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is to promote sustainable development of human settlements and policies conducive to adequate housing for all. Within this framework, UN-Habitat supports central and state governments, as well as local authorities and other partners for the implementation of the Habitat Agenda, the 2030 Agenda with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer, more inclusive, compact, integrated, resilient and connected places with better opportunities where everyone can live with dignity. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development. The Regional Office for Latin American and the Caribbean - ROLAC - is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Agency puts emphasis on developing and managing activities in the host country. Indeed, for the past years, UN-Habitat has expanded its portfolio in Brazil by working with the three tiers of government in order to support the formulation and implementation of more effective, sustainable, participative and socially fairer urban economic, social and environmental policies. In order to expand the programme and seek support to work with the challenges of reducing urban poverty and integrating all segments of the population into the fabric of the city, UN-Habitat is a partner of Instituto Pereira Passos (IPP) of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (PCRJ) in the implementation of the Social Territories Programme. To respect, protect and achieve rights and build a fairer and more equitable city, the Social Territories Programme aims to identify the most vulnerable urban population of the city of Rio de Janeiro, better understand their living conditions and promote a specialized support to integrate them into public registries, the network of basic services and the municipal urban fabric. To continue with the due implementation of the Social Territories Programme, UN-Habitat office in Rio de Janeiro is looking for a Legal Data Protection Assistant Report to UN-Habitat Manager The Legal Data Protection Assistant reports to the Head of Brazil Office and OiC for Southern Cone Office who will evaluate him/her. Outputs/Work Assignment The Legal Data Protection Assistant shall support and advise on the implementation of programme activities according to the responsibilities indicated below. Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Head of Brazil Office and OiC for Southern Cone Office, the Legal Data Protection Assistant will: 1. Technically assist the Programme regarding data protection - Technically assist the Programme according to programme documents and agreement signed regarding data protection. - Prepare and review products according to the agreed outcomes and indicators. - Ensure programme implementation as per the work plan with support from programme staff. - Anticipate and mitigate risks to programme, including relevant challenges or omissions and other situations that may affect development and implementation of the programme regarding the use of data. - Research about data protection best practices. - Provide information for the systematization and exchange of successful practices and experiences with other offices in the region and with headquarters divisions, as well as Brazilian experiences on data protection. - Ensure that the technical activities are aligned with the quality expectations of the Agency and its counterparts. - Record and maintain documents on relevant programme activities, issues, and risks. - Attend meetings and conferences promoted by partners to strengthen Project position and presence in the territories. - Undertake any other duties and responsibilities within the incumbent's expertise that can be reasonably expected to help maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of UN-Habitat's response to urban development issues. - Perform other duties which may be requested by the supervisors.
