Discord is a platform used by over 200 million people every month for various reasons, but one thing nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.
This role will be responsible for building trust and finding common ground with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders in Brasilia and national capitals across Latin America.
Key Responsibilities:- Introduce Discord to government policymakers and civil society stakeholders, educating them on our founding vision, products, and investments in privacy and safety;
- Develop and execute a multi-year government advocacy strategy that maps user interests and business goals to the evolving legal and regulatory landscape;
- Identify emerging trends in online communications regulation and build action plans in coordination with Legal, Product, and Communications teams;
- Advocate for Discord's position on key legislative and regulatory initiatives, balancing direct advocacy with coalition and association leverage;
- Provide context and support for the company's responses to regulator inquiries;
- Promote employee awareness and invite engagement on public policy strategy and priorities;
- Engage in public policy coalitions with peer companies and civil society organizations;
- Coordinate compelling returns from partnerships with non-profits and civil society organizations; and
- Manage government affairs consultants and advisors in Latin America.
- Sustained professional success at the highest levels of government and/or strategic public policy advocacy;
- Experience developing and executing public policy advocacy campaigns in Brazil, with experience in other key markets (Mexico, Argentina, Chile) in the region a plus;
- Insight into the policymaking process in key markets throughout the region;
- Commitment to Discord's mission to be the place where everyone can find belonging before, during, and after playing games together online;
- Willingness to travel as necessary within the region, with occasional travel to the U.S. as required;
- Work experience on technology policy initiatives such as online safety, privacy, cybersecurity, or content moderation, especially in the online gaming space;
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences;
- Leadership experience with a civil society organization and/or tech company;
- Success building trust and consensus across stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities;
