The Sr. IP Network Engineer is an individual contributor with advanced background in IP Network Engineering design, implementation and operation.
The primary objective of the Sr. IP Engineer within the Edge Network Engineering team is to properly identify customer requirements and establish and deploy a solution which meets the customer's needs and expectations. This will require disciplined compliance with change management best practices while working both independently and with cross-functional teams; this role will have opportunities to coach team members on complex technical issues, interface with other engineering and support groups internally, and engage with customer IT personnel on complex network/system performance and troubleshooting efforts.
This Sr. IP engineer position provides customer facing global IP network design and implementation, hardware selection and configuration standardization as it relates to network routing protocol, switching and security methodology. As part of the Edge Network Engineering team, the role also includes Tier 4 escalations from the global support organization as well as providing pre-sales technical consultation alongside Sales and Solutions/Systems Engineering teams.
What you will do:

  • Build and maintain customer's IP network infrastructure within Speedcast Edge network
  • Enforcing Cyber Security policies and hardening of non-core managed network devices
  • Contributes to the development of customer-facing solutions in coordination with Sales/Sales Engineering, Product/Edge Network Engineering teams to ensure optimal solution and supportability
  • Ensure that all engineering parameters and configurations meet the client's requirements and are being fulfilled on a timely basis
  • Provide 4th level technical escalation support by providing end-to-end subject matter expertise
  • Design and implement customer functional networks such as LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, QoS, and Security/VPN
  • Collaborate with other Engineers around the globe in the design and deployment of new services and/or enhancements/changes to existing network services
  • Advise and recommend technical solutions that will enhance, increase levels of redundancy, survivability and add flexibility to existing global Speedcast systems, network and VSAT Platforms
  • Coach and mentor team members on complex technical issues to deliver the highest level of service to our customers
  • Assist in strengthening IP expertise within the Edge Network Engineering and Customer Support Teams
  • Assist in the development or improvements of network operational best practices and processes to customer network performance, capacity and scalability
  • Ensures that appropriate action is taken to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems in systems and services. Coordinates the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures. Analyzes patterns and trends
  • Controls, updates and distributes new and revised quality, configuration and services standards, including technical changes, and maintains documentation
What we need from you:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (BSEE preferred) but will consider candidates with the right combination of relevant work experience or degrees in related fields
  • Must have at least 7 years of network engineering design and operation experience utilizing various networking equipment from Cisco, Palo Alto, Versa Networks, Juniper
  • Must have proven experience in the application of network design, development and implementation techniques in communications systems that involve a variety of hardware and software suites
  • End-to-end knowledge of various access technologies and networking protocols.
  • CCIE certification preferred but may be substituted with equivalent experience and knowledge of routing, switching and Security/VPN
  • Advanced level knowledge and hands on working experience of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIPv2), MPLS and SD-WAN
  • Advanced level knowledge and hands on working experience in designing and implementing complex QoS in a Cisco network environment.
  • Extensive experience with Network Security and VPN design and implementation utilizing Cisco and Palo Alto
  • Extensive experience with WAN optimization technology platforms
  • Experience with Newtec Dialog and iDirect VSAT Platform is a plus.
  • Experience with various VSAT antenna systems such as Seatel, Cobham, Intellian, Sailor, Virgin Technologies, Orbit and Kymeta is a plus
  • Experience with various wireless broadband in offshore communication such as LTE, Inmarsat FleetBroadband/BGAN, Iridium
  • Experience with various NMS and ITSM such as Solarwinds, DataMiner and ServiceNow
  • Experience with network packet analyzer tools such as Wireshark, NetFlow or equivalent and bandwidth measurement tool such iPerf or equivalent tool
  • Able to communicate effectively via written and verbal communications.
  • Excellent problem solver, flexible and able to accommodate changing priorities and directions
  • Must be able to interact effectively within all levels of the company
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and function with minimal supervision
  • Research and analytical skills with the ability to collect access and report factual data and present logical conclusions
