EHS Safety Specialist

Join our winning team as an **EHS Safety Specialist **in our **EH&S **Department** at Guarujá, Brazil. In this role, you will actively participate in all aspects of Security within the Olin organization and stakeholders.
**EHS Safety Specialist Essential Functions**
- Implements health and safety management systems (processes, standards and regulations).
- Acts as focal point of the business unit's facilities for health and safety and environmental compliance.
- Participates in health and safety audits and provides necessary data for these audits.
- Coordinates, implements and optimizes health and safety programs across plants and functions.
- Participates in accident investigations and corrective action process for health and safety issues and opportunities.
- Initiates and supports the MOC process for health and safety matters as needed.
- May interpret emerging external or internal changes to EH&S requirements, develops options for implementation, creates implementation plan including guidance documents and training materials.
- Identifies opportunities to streamline resources in health and safety processes.
- Collects, inputs data, and calculates health and safety reporting information.
- Utilizes health and safety experts to obtain a clear interpretation of plant specific regulatory processes, laws and their related regulations.
- Is able to identify and keep up to date the local, area and regional health and safety requirements not handled by the Regulatory Affairs department, as well as interpret, implement and ensure full compliance with the requirements with these requirements.
- Acts as a Safety Specialist, Industrial Hygiene Officer, and Incident Officer with direct responsibility to the regulatory authority.
- Participates in the Compliance International Team to ensure legal compliance.
- ISO 14001 and 45001 Responsible Person
- Implementation Leader for EH&S Standards, laws and regulations (internal/external)
**EHS Safety Specialist Position Requirements**
- Can describe, implement and perform the health and safety process, its sub-processes, standards and regulations.
- Able to perform the role of an auditor.
- Able to identify accident reduction issues and implement the necessary improvement actions to address these issues.
- Possesses project implementation skills at the Green Belt level would be useful.
- Able to implement accident reduction and accident prevention actions.
- Can perform the role of a team leader/member in the root cause investigation process.
- Has working knowledge of the corrective action process and trains others in it.
- May initiate the establishment of corrective actions to improve system performance and is able to monitor and confirm implementation.
- Able to describe and utilize the MOC process.
- Is able to implement new EH&S requirements at the local level, train employees according to the implementation plan, participate in changing local work rules.
- Is able to negotiate resources in collaboration with local leaders.
- May perform the focal point role (Industrial Hygiene, Management System) for the business unit, as assigned.
- Is able to describe the health protection and occupational safety organization.
- May identify, liaise with and effectively utilize health and safety professionals to obtain interpretation of plant specific requirements, regulations and laws including their procedures.
- May train and positively guide others to change their health and safety behaviors.
- Must be knowledgeable of the accident record database, specific reporting requirements, and the process required to do so.
- Enjoys and is proficient in working at the interface with external government organizations.
- Must be able to conduct on-site observations and interactions with all employees and contractors resulting in positive, sustainable behavior change in work performance.
- Be able to interpret expert opinion work and implement it in the process.
**Theoretical/Practical Knowledge**:
- Complete Higher Education in Safety Engineering, Production or related areas.
- Specialization in Occupational Safety Engineering desirable.
- 3-5 years in occupational safety in industrial operations.
- Knowledge of Brazilian regulatory standards and government agencies.
- Excellent organizational skills are required.
- Has a detailed knowledge of:
- Production processes, the work procedures involved in repair and turn arounds.
- All regulations concerning occupational health and safety on construction sites and in production facilities.
- Emergency and safety regulations, accident prevention and process safety regulations, process technology, computer systems such as data banks
- It is desirable that you have knowledge and experience with HOP methodology.
