Overview

The Senior Specialist, Physician, working without any appreciable supervision, is responsible for the resolution of medical issues, such as the treatment of work-related illnesses and injuries of employees, the conduct of fitness-for-duty physical examinations, conducting pre-employment physicals, check-ups, and providing medical care in occupational injuries or disease cases with diligence and consistency in a timely manner. This role will design Standard Operating Protocols and benchmarks to be implemented for company programs related to employee health and wellness at the workplace, to foster a culture of employee well-being, safety, and health excellence across the organization. Additionally, the role will also be a subject matter expert on matters pertaining to medical treatment and health, advising leaders and consulting with teams on preventive healthcare measures, disease prevention strategies, occupational health best practices, etc. to ensure a positive work environment across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with multiple stakeholders to design scientifically backed standard operating protocols and organization-wide practices around regular employee check-ups, managing the diagnosis and ongoing treatment of occupational disorders, providing medical care in industrial accidents or disease cases, pre-employment physicals and fitness-for-duty examinations, and preventive medical and health initiatives such as vaccination programs, health screenings and check-ups, smoking cessation programs, and other health risk assessments with diligence and consistency in a timely manner in compliance with medical laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Provides advice to specialists and other personnel on technical matters and difficult cases related to post-offer medical evaluations, medical surveillance exams, certification exams, and medical evaluation of reporting occupational illnesses and injuries, as per organizational practices, procedures, and processes and in line with the required standards and timelines as the organization’s principal subject matter expert on the domain.
  • Owns the delivery of special projects such as developing a health risk mitigation strategy for newly implemented manufacturing processes, leveraging predictive healthcare analytics to proactively manage employee health risks and prevent chronic conditions, developing a comprehensive mental health and resilience program, etc. involving the development of innovative solutions and programs to deal with complex health and wellness problems consistent with organizational objectives and long-term strategy. Establishes KPIs to measure the outcomes of these solutions and programs.
  • Supports regulatory inspections and audits. Represents the organization when dealing with regulatory bodies, external consultants/vendors including healthcare providers, and other agencies, and ensures that the organizational interests and objectives are supported.
  • Consults with Occupational Safety, Industrial and Occupational ergonomics, and other relevant teams for formulating effective preventive programs around occupational health and ergonomic safety. Designs specific occupational health and preventive medicine communications including health check-up reminders, preventing heat-related illness, workstation health and safety tips, vaccination clinic announcements, etc. as per organizational processes leading to the organizational objective of optimal health for all employees.
  • Develops and implements training programs across departments on health and medical care across subjects such as raising general awareness of common workplace health issues, stress and anxiety reduction, management of chronic conditions, nutrition workshops, etc. to foster a culture of employee well-being, safety, and health excellence across the organization.
  • Designs standards, processes, and templates for the maintenance of accurate and confidential records and data related to the Physician function such as employee health history, training sessions, and emergency response records along with the associated reports and analytics to monitor trends, derive insights and identify areas for improvement or intervention.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the medical profession on subjects such as clinical medicine, occupational health, medical emergencies, preventive healthcare measures, and awareness of healthcare technologies along with a strong understanding of related concepts and principles.
  • Attends accredited educational programs to stay updated in relevant clinical areas, conducts independent citation research, and contributes to the submission of content and abstracts to key symposia.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctorate in Osteopathic or Allopathic Medicine from an accredited medical school.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in direct participant care in occupational ailments, work-related injuries, industrial accidents, or similar domains.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Unrestricted Medical License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Board Certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM), Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or international equivalent

Work Requirements:

  • Involves frequent (defined as one to two-thirds of the time) lifting of more than 10 to 25 pounds. Work performed requires a good deal of walking or standing and may include some sedentary work and working conditions that include moderate noise levels related to the use of office equipment or machinery. May involve exposure to varying outside temperatures.
