Sustainability Director

CHS is looking for a Sustainability Director for SOAM . Continues to grow in importance and complexity, this position is responsible for building and aligning the sustainability strategy in South America with the enterprise strategy. This role will be responsible for understanding the ESG-related rules and preparing the enterprise for compliance and supporting the business to ensure trade flows. This position will work strategically with legal, compliance, trading, government affairs and finance. The focus of this role will be to develop and execute a plan to offer DCF commodities. The role will need to conduct a risk assessment, gap analysis and develop a roadmap to comply with the EUDR. The role will need to prepare the enterprise for other emerging ESG topics that are relevant to SA, such as human rights, biodiversity and climate. Responsibilities & Duties (60%) Work collaboratively with the SA and EU teams, legal, compliance, and government affairs to assess the risks and opportunities related to deforestation. Based on the assessment, develop and execute a strategy that will allow CHS to meet lender requirements, efficiently and effectively prepare non-financial disclosures, sustainably grow the business in SA and comply with the EUDR and other emerging DCF trade rules. Develop the processes and policies needed to ensure that SA-grown crops do not originate from legal or illegally deforested land in South America. Develop the infrastructure to enable traceability and develop the processes needed to submit due diligence reports for exports to the EU and other markets. Engage with external stakeholders, including policy makers and NGOs, on deforestation. Develop materials to communicate the risks and opportunities related to deforestation to internal stakeholders in Brasil and the EU. (20%) Develop a comprehensive sustainability program in alignment with the enterprise strategy, to include the four focus areas. Assess the risks and opportunities related to water, biodiversity and human rights, then develop a long-term strategic plan. Develop the processes and governance needed to effectively manage the risks and opportunities. Assist with the preparation of non-financial disclosures. (20%) Represent CHS at industry events, interact with the financial community, policy makers and NGOs and other external stakeholders, and advocate for the agricultural and cooperative systems. Develop communication materials for education and awareness for internal and external stakeholders. Represent the sustainability team on key internal workgroups. Support the sustainability team as necessary. Minimum Requirements 10+ years work experience in one or more of the following areas: sustainability, environmental management, agriculture, energy, natural resource management, human rights, forest management or related field 7+ years work experience in agriculture or food or related field 4+ years work in a role addressing deforestation Experience with sustainability reporting & disclosures Experience developing or executing a non-deforestation program in large complex organizations Experience with sustainability related industry associations and policy development Excellent written and oral communication; ability to take complex topics and communicate to non-sustainability professionals Ability and interest in public speaking Native or fluent in Portuguese and English Preferred Requirements 7+ years work in a role addressing deforestation in South America 2+ years working on sustainability reporting frameworks such as CDP, GRI, TCFD or similar framework Familiarity with DCF organizations such as the Soy Moratorium Experience conducting a materiality assessment within a global organization #J-18808-Ljbffr
