Job Description Summary Systems engineering is a cross‑functional discipline focused on designing, creating, and optimizing systems that meet both business and technical customer needs. The role involves identifying and quantifying system requirements, developing alternate design concepts, conducting trade studies, selecting the best designs, integrating them, and verifying full system performance from concept through production to operation. Responsibilities and Activities Work on power plant control system design deliverables, networking and cybersecurity solutions involving PLC, IO devices, server configuration, network architectures, switch configuration, and troubleshooting. Install and configure servers, network‑managed switches, routers and firewalls for a power plant control environment (usually Rockwell, Mark VIe). Define VLANs and network segmentation. Read processing notices, create functional analysis documents, perform SW programming, and develop static/dynamic mimics per P&ID and standard faceplates using tools such as RS Logix, Studio 5000, FT View, Control ST, Cimplicity, Workstation ST, etc. Configure alarms, HMI, and simulation testing. Implement secure design practices. Perform contract analysis, concept design, reverse engineering, and prepare work‑statement documents. Document technical data generated for assigned projects. Review supplier documents (IO list, P&ID, Minfex data) and update IO lists. Create supplier technical specifications for BTS or BTP DCS solutions; coordinate with suppliers and follow up technically. Prepare and update logic programs and HMI mimics per P&ID. Perform design reviews, record outcomes, and track actions to closure. Prepare and update OMM documents. Track project schedule and implementation plan. Travel occasionally to customer and supplier premises for technical discussions, design follow‑up, FAT, etc. Conduct site survey activities and map existing systems for design inputs. Prepare de‑commissioning and dismantling manuals. Deliver training programs to internal and external customers. Improve quality, productivity, and cost‑out actions. Conduct interface engineering and site support. Develop standards and design practice guides. Collaborate with global teams on project execution. Ensure reliable operation of machines under installation, commissioning, and warranty periods. Collect and analyze data from affected hydro power plants, perform RCA, develop corrective actions, and support teams across the fleet. Work closely with design, commissioning, construction, sourcing, quality, and risk mitigation functions. Assess fleet reliability data to validate improvements in fault and part failure rates. Provide leadership with accurate risk assessments of technical fleet issues. Present findings internally and to customers. Establish technical community relationships to incorporate lessons learned into methods content. Qualifications / Requirements Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control engineering. Experience in PLC hardware design and software programming. Knowledge of DCS design standards, HW design, SW logic, HMI design, control cubicle design, and cybersecurity solutions. Familiarity with global cybersecurity standards such as IEC 62443 & NERC‑CIP. Expertise with Rockwell Automation, Mark VIe, Siemens, ABB, Emerson, and related tools (RS Logix, Studio 5000, FT View, Control ST, Cimplicity, Workstation ST, SCALA, SICAM). Preferred industry experience in power, large EPC, or oil & gas. Strong English and Portuguese language skills (oral and written). Desired Characteristics Experience with Rockwell Automation or Mark VIe based control systems preferred; experience with Siemens, ABB, Emerson, etc. acceptable. Exposure to cybersecurity domain is advantageous. Ability to manage and resolve conflicts in a fast‑paced project environment. Excellent communication, active listening, and motivational skills.
