IDB Invest is an international financial institution and the private sector arm of the IDB Group that aims to solve development needs in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our mission is to support sustainable enterprises and projects that achieve financial results while maximizing regional social and environmental development. IDB Invest operates in 26 countries grouped into four regions and three industries (Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Intermediaries, and Corporates).

IDB Invest's shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization to support a transformative business model, "Originate to Share," to attract greater private investment that drives development and climate impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. This will enable IDB Invest to nearly double its annual regional investments from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion .

IDB Invest has reorganized its structure to implement this new business model, creating the Regions Department . This department manages the business and clients from a country perspective organized in four regions:

  1. Southern Cone (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay)
  2. Andean Group (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela)
  3. The Caribbean (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago)
  4. Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua), Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and Dominican Republic
About this position

We seek a dynamic and experienced leader to join as Managing Director for Southern Cone .

The candidate should be an experienced banker with significant regional expertise, a proven track record of successful business development, deep knowledge of the countries, and strong relationships with relevant private sector companies operating in the region.

As Managing Director, you will be responsible for achieving the region's business and impact targets. You will report directly to the Chief Regions Officer and be responsible for achieving the countries' impact and business targets. You will supervise Countries' Representatives of the region, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, and the three regions' delivery unit heads.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain relationships with governments and participate in business development with private sector clients and entities.
  2. Provide guidance and oversight to the Country Representatives, supporting their strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities.
  3. Oversee and be responsible for business performance from a regional perspective with the Delivery Units (organized teams by industries and regions responsible for originating, structuring, and supervising transactions).
  4. Together with the corresponding Country Representatives, shape country strategies from a private sector perspective.
  5. Define countries' priorities and strategies and establish upstream work.
  6. Identify, promote, and execute synergies with IDB and IDB Lab.
  7. Manage operational, human, capital, and budgetary resources at the unit level.
  8. Coordinate with IDB (VPS) and IDB Lab counterparts to promote synergies.
Requirements
  1. At least 10 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record. Proven regional expertise and strong relationships with the market and clients in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  2. Masters degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
  3. Proficiency in English and one of the other Banks official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
  4. There are no citizenship requirements.
Consanguinity:

No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

We offer a staff contract, initially 36 months, renewable upon mutual agreement.
