POSITION SUMMARYThis role is responsible for promoting and co-creating with our customers new products and formulation developments for personal care and cosmetic applications. This experienced scientist will focus on solving customer needs based on market trends, principles of surface and application sciences. The individual will provide surface and application science guidance to the regional new product formulations and platform technology developments. This scientist will also be involved in developing new products and formulation developments as well as closely collaborating with the marketing, sales, business development, and R&D. This role requires an individual that is highly self-motivated, independent (especially in the laboratory), and capable of building networks and mentoring less experienced scientists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Must be science-driven with a focus on formulation research and application development. This scientist will be a project leader responsible for the planning, management, support, and execution of key formulation projects in the portfolio of the Vantage Personal Care technology (R&D) organization in LATAM.
- This role will lead the development of new products and applications promoting Vantage technologies, product functionalities, and delivering market-driven performance solutions.
- Cosmetic formulation expertise is necessary to develop hair care, skin care, sun care, and color cosmetics formulas.
- Meeting with clients to discuss and understand their needs and application performance requirements in terms of product type and functionality.
- Support the development of formulations for functional claim substantiation of Vantage products and formulations. The role will be responsible for providing technical services, supporting the sales team addressing customer queries, and technical training the organization on the functionality of Vantage ingredients.
- Requires cross-functional collaboration to help solve customers’ challenges, as well as to drive optimization effectiveness of process/procedures and best practices associated with application/formulation development.
- The Senior Specialist Formulation Research will have experience interacting with LATAM teams, global teams, global customers, and strong know-how of cosmetic/personal care formulations. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring close alignment with the R&D team, as well as collaboration with the Personal Care marketing and commercial teams.
- Lead technical forum presentations and trade show technical presentations.
- Lead Customer Innovation sessions and regional webinars highlighting Vantage products and capabilities.
- Provide competitive intelligence and technology trends based on customer interactions and published literature (and IP).
- Laboratory safety is a must, and it is expected that the scientist practices the highest standards and best lab practices and will be a positive safety contributor at Vantage.
- This role will be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil serving primarily Brazilian customers, but also providing support to other strategic customers in the LATAM region according to the expertise needed.
- Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated R&D and lab experiences and proven success in technical application support of products and formulations related to Personal Care and Cosmetics.
- Knowledge of application sciences with an emphasis on product formulations and development.
- Clear, pragmatic solution-driven approaches to resolving customers’ needs and challenges.
- Capability to research, understand, and translate the development requirements of current and prospective customers.
- Multicultural understanding and team player.
- Strong planning, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills appropriate for the needs of the audience and ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to customers and staff at all levels.
- This role requires an individual that is highly self-motivated, independent (especially in the laboratory), and flexible to travel to meet with customers and to other Vantage lab locations.
- BS degree or equivalent in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical, Chemical Engineering. Significant experience in R&D and Technical Service as a lab scientist in a highly applied business. Specialization &/or MBA, MSc, or PhD.
- Language: Portuguese & English – Speak, Read, and Write (must be fluent), Spanish – Speak and Read (at least intermediate level).
