The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) unit sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees. PSP Office was established in Brazil in 2014 and has substantially grown since then. The office is currently developing an ambitious long-term strategy to achieve US$ 10M income. As part of this strategy, one of our key priorities is to accelerate the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) programme; the PPH program is set to develop and strengthen long-term partnerships with companies, foundations and private philanthropists (“PPH donors”). To manage this strategy, PSP is hiring an Assistant PPH Officer.

As part of a wider fundraising team and reporting directly to Head of PSP in Brazil, the Assist. PPH Officer will be responsible for the designing and implementation of the strategies for high-value fundraising, including Corporate, Foundations, Major Donors, Faith Base and Gifts in Kind streams, to secure funding for UNHCR programmes and projects. The Assist. PPH Officer is expected to develop strong, long-lasting and strategic partnerships bringing various forms of support to UNHCR and the people we serve, such as advocacy, expertise and solutions.

We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and strategic person with exceptional inter-personal skills and able to proactively build lasting partnerships and relationships. The ideal candidate has previous experience leading teams to deliver against ambitious targets, can align CSR / ESG objectives, negotiate complex contracts, and deliver measurable ROI and impact reports.

This position is key for the development of private sector fundraising for UNHCR in Brazil.

Essential Minimum Qualifications and previous experience:

  • Undergraduate degree (equivalent of a BA / BS) in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration / Management, or other relevant field. Graduate degree (equivalent of a Master’s) or Doctorate degree (equivalent of a PhD) may also be accepted.
  • Relevant professional experience in corporate fundraising, business development or partnership development, with a demonstrated success in securing corporate donations and / or multi-year partnerships.
  • Proven experience in successfully meeting or exceeding ambitious annual income goals, with clear examples of expanding partnership / donor pipelines and portfolios year-over-year.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated previous experience in building and maintaining long-term relationships with key partners / accounts / donors. Evidence of identifying and converting corporate and / or high value prospects into active donors or partners.
  • Strong network of contacts within corporate sector including CSR and ESG teams.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written materials tailored to donor stewardship.
  • Ability to balance different and sometimes competing needs and deadlines.
  • Experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders, with an ability to multi-task, manage time, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in a UN field location and / or working in a developing country, with an ability to function well in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Native in Portuguese, fluent in English. Other UN languages is a plus.

Desirable Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of humanitarian programming and / or UNHCR programmes and operational arrangements.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint 365 platform.
  • Experience in marketing and / or communications.
  • Knowledge of CRM tools, ideally Salesforce.

Candidates must meet the essential minimum requirements of the position and be Brazilian citizens.
