Senior Construction Manager, AWS Data Center Construction AMER. This position will be based in Paulínia.

The Data Center Senior Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for managing some of the most technical, cost efficient, and fast paced construction project schedules achievable. Amazon Construction Managers are constantly challenged to drive continuous improvement and deliver the highest quality, most technically efficient data centers in the world. As a Data Center CM you will be a part of highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in building Amazon data facilities. You will be leading projects in Latin America. Our data centers are industry leading examples of energy efficient, cost effective designs. The Data Center CM is ultimately responsible for the day to day construction oversight and control of contractors. The CM will also be utilized as a leader in their specific discipline (construction management, electrical or mechanical engineering) and be responsible as a team member for delivering construction of some of the most sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems in the world. Each team member is a highly motivated individual with demonstrated construction management and analytical expertise in the areas of complex, mission critical facilities. Daily responsibilities will include aspects of the entire data center life cycle construction starting with the due diligence, site selection, permitting, design review, through daily construction oversight, and commissioning of completed facilities. You will be directly managing the construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Project management and oversight of construction related activities for new region builds throughout our global portfolio. This includes ownership of the project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Provide Construction Management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of data centers.
  • Review of constructability of electrical and mechanical system designs associated with the construction of new data centers or the optimization of existing data centers.
  • Creation of project scope and equipment requirements, assist with request for proposals, and capital requests.
  • Full project quality including assisting with commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight of project execution.
  • Manage the Request for Information process during construction and coordinate construction administration with engineers.
  • Record and report key metrics to team members and management.
  • Concurrently manage multiple projects including new data center buildings and capital improvement projects at existing data centers.
  • Operational support of installed facilities including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Be a leader within the group and with internal and external teams that support the data center.
  • Travel to data center sites to manage construction efforts and/or for electrical systems audits, mechanical system reviews, constructability reviews, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required. Position is based in Brazil with frequent domestic & international travel up to 50-75% to support projects as necessary.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with experience in construction/program management for mission critical facilities or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction management or construction project management.
  • 7+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution, including leading pre-construction efforts.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering best practices including breaker coordination studies, switchgear sequence of operation.
  • Knowledge of building, electrical and fire codes and regulations including Life Safety. Knowledge of EH&S regulations and requirements.
  • Experience developing & managing projects in multiple countries.
  • Experience leading conflict resolution with co-located and geographically dispersed multi-cultural teams.
  • Experience leading large contractor support teams; team consisting of contractors, not direct employees.
  • Experience developing, monitoring and maintaining mission critical project schedules; master schedules and micro schedules.
  • Possess relevant passport and ability to obtain visas for travel to international project locations.
  • Ability to meet entry requirements for regions and countries outside of assigned office location.
  • Fully bilingual (proficient in Portuguese and English communication, both spoken and written).
Preferred Qualifications
  • International Experience directly managing construction projects from end to end.
  • Fluent in Spanish spoken and written.
  • Experience directly related to the design and construction of data centers.
  • Manufacturing experience and knowledge of lean principals.
  • Previous vendor and contractor/subcontractor negotiation and management skills associated with construction and project execution.
  • Experience with fast track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects.
  • Experience with large scale technical operations or compute farms.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, NFPA, and NEC and/or equivalent in candidates home country.
  • Knowledge and experience with large scale mechanical and power systems.
  • Experience in power and mechanical system reliability and risk assessment studies.
  • Experience with mechanical air handling units, power management and power monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrable leadership and problem-solving skills, ability to act autonomously, and have limited oversight.
  • Ability to evaluate constructability of new technologies and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Ability to define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements to vendors and contractors, communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.
  • Willingness to think creatively to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings for all disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
