Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, the Senior Project Manager will collaborate across the organization to facilitate impactful conversations that help define and implement major, cross-functional strategy initiatives. The Senior Project Manager will lead projects on behalf of senior leadership to achieve the outlined goals and objectives to ensure the success of the organization that is built for the future of work. Ideal candidate will be based in the Washington, DC area.

Accountabilities
  • Builds, develops, and grows partnerships vital to the success of the project.
  • Manages the operational and tactical aspects of multiple projects in a matrix environment.
  • Manages and oversees the development of projects from initiation to completion.
  • May manage projects through others, by building capacity and supporting them through the implementation of project activities, delivering quality and accountability.
  • Provide guidance and monitoring for project staff, ensuring clarity over project plans and priorities and encouraging effective teamwork.
  • Develops best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Defines project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals and strategic vision of management.
  • Coordinates the development and delivery of project plans, documentation, training, presentations and budget proposals to management and staff.
  • Identifies and resolves project issues and implements improvement plans to ensure project stays on schedule and within budget.
  • Manages the development of project teams to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; also, to develop and implement process improvement plans.
  • Identifies partnerships, opportunities, and information to present to management to help achieve strategic goals of the company.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with project management, process development, change management and execution.
  • Strong knowledge of project management software and other technologies. Strong negotiator and problem solver.
  • Demonstrated project, change and personnel management skills.
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to adapt and resolve problems/issues to bring project to completion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

  • Decisions and actions have serious implications with delays in project schedules and may affect overall business activities.
  • Problems are complex and require analysis of situations and data with evaluation of various factors.
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies to select methods and techniques to obtain results.
Supervision Given/Received
  • May manage staff and external project members to achieve goals and vision of project from initiation to completion.
  • Coordinates project plans, budgets, training, and resources with management to achieve strategic goals.
Education
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or its International Equivalent in Knowledge/Information Services, Communications, Education, Environment, Health, Behavioral, Life/Social Sciences International Development, Human Development or Related Field.
  • Master’s degree or its international equivalent preferred.
  • Project Management (PM) Certification required.
  • Change Management Certification preferred, Prosci or CCMP.
Experience
  • Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience (including 3+ years of line management experience) with project management principles and practices.
  • Experience working with project management tools such as JIRA, Asana, Smartsheet, etc.
  • Experience in multi-functional/matrix management and implementation.
  • Experience in similar project management role supporting top level executives with organization-wide initiatives and change management.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation as well as strategic planning, capacity building and team management.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.
Typical Physical Demands
  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.
Technology to be Used
  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.
Travel Requirements
  • Less than 10%

Salary and benefits: The expected US-based salary range for this role is USD 110,000 - 130,000 annually. Base salary is one component of the offer; FHI 360 contributes 7% of monthly base pay to a pension plan, and staff receive 18 days of paid vacation, 12 sick days, and 11 holidays per year. International ranges will differ based on location.
