As a Curriculum and Assessment Designer for the Humanities—specifically Geography, History, Philosophy, and Sociology—at the Middle School level, your primary responsibility is to support educators in continuously improving their instructional and assessment practices. Your work will help foster critical thinking, ethical reflection, and active citizenship, while ensuring alignment with both national and international curricula.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize, review, and monitor educators' activities within the Humanities subjects to ensure alignment with the learning objectives of the national curriculum (BNCC) and international programs.
  • Ensure teaching practices integrate contemporary issues, interdisciplinary approaches, and methodologies that promote historical awareness, spatial thinking, social consciousness, and philosophical inquiry.
  • Project Planning and Collaboration:
  • Meet regularly with educators in social sciences to understand their ongoing projects and support the planning process.
  • Collaborate with educators through each step of the backward design process to develop units that promote investigation, source analysis, debate, and interpretation of sociocultural contexts.
  • Assist in embedding global citizenship, diversity, sustainability, and human rights into the curriculum.
  • Assessment Development:
  • Assist educators in designing authentic and formative assessments that foster critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and social and spatial analysis.
  • Ensure assessments align with established learning goals and reflect the complexity and diversity of the subjects.
  • Communication and Engagement:
  • Review and refine project letters and communications to families to ensure clarity, cultural sensitivity, and relevance, particularly when addressing complex historical or philosophical themes.
  • Share project overviews and updates with the division principal to keep them informed of progress and project development.
  • Classroom Support:
  • Observe Humanities lessons and provide constructive feedback and strategies that support student engagement, critical inquiry, and inclusive discussion.
  • Suggest resources and techniques that promote source-based inquiry, ethical reflection, and active participation.
  • Meetings and Reporting:
  • Conduct weekly meetings with principals to present project overviews, track learning progress, and address any significant challenges, along with strategies for resolution.
  • Share observations, data, and recommendations based on classroom practices and student outcomes.
  • Professional Development:
  • Identify professional development needs based on classroom observations and project deliverables in the Humanities.
  • Work with school leaders to design and deliver targeted professional learning on topics such as decolonial teaching, human rights education, inquiry-based learning, and critical pedagogy.
  • Community Engagement:

  • Promote the use of multiple and representative sources and voices in all Humanities subjects.
  • Flexible Role:
  • Be prepared to take on classroom instruction and additional duties as needed, especially in cases of educator absence or emerging school needs.
