Primary Purpose of the position: The Director, Operations manages operational processes from start to finish in the assigned plant. They work with their plant leadership teams to manage operations in the plant and achieve production and operational goals according to budgeted targets, while driving culture and strategy to increase productivity and engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the overall safety performance in the plant by ensuring focus on programs, procedures and KPIs in accordance with Ball safety programs. Provides for a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in EHS behaviours across the plant.
  • Provide oversight for the operations management team including production, engineering, maintenance, quality and safety, connected to planning, procurement, supply chain, finance and human resources.
  • Ensure plant performance is closely linked to customer requirements, product specifications and quality controls.
  • Ensure the plant complies with all environmental regulations by maintaining effective environmental programs.
  • Collaborate with the plant leadership team to maximize efficiency in terms of profit, productivity and cost, coordinating with central support functions including finance, Ball Operational Excellence, quality, commercial, engineering, sourcing, human resources, health/safety, communications, legal and technical services.
  • Align with Manufacturing Cost Controller/Finance and manage the plant budget, cost per thousand and operating plans.
  • Support the achievement of plant-level KPIs in environmental, health & safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, maintenance and sustainability. Benchmark with other plants to optimize and exceed Company objectives.
  • Lead the selection, training, growth and development of shift and staff personnel to attain organizational goals.
  • Support positive employee relations, including with local/national union leadership and, if applicable, lead and manage union negotiations in line with the aligned strategy. Establish a high-performance culture and healthy working relationships with the workforce.
  • Establish effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • May be responsible for special projects related to other functional areas.
  • Coordinate activities and projects to maintain optimal level of customer service for both internal and external customers.
Position Requirements & Competencies
  • Completed Bachelor Degree preferred in Engineering, Business or Supply Chain
  • MBA Preferred
  • Advanced/Fluent English
  • Manufacturing leadership experience (high speed manufacturing/packaging preferred)
  • Experience in highly matrixed/high growth organizations
Skills
  • Ability to collaborate with functional counterparts early in planning and development to meet plant objectives; direct, allocate resources, and manage timing to achieve objectives.
  • Discretion with sensitive and proprietary information; maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform assignments as directed by management.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in Ball Corporation manuals.
  • Maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
